I don't know but depending how much you want to spend you can nearly make any engine fast (Y)

ummm a engine with a head designed for motorsport or a modded cooking spec engine

As CAD and simulations take over i think there will be less you can do with modern stuff, as generally parts are designed to a price with the minimal of capacity left in the part.

In the future i see more tuning companies casting special parts, much like in the states with some of there V8's as there aint much you can do with the std production parts.

the YB is a better design with a better bore and stroke configuration

the Zetec can be tuned to near 500 bhp (thats the most the head can possibly flow)

interestingly - the exhaust ports on a Zetec are much less restrictive than a YB

Thats an interesting remark.

Will Gollop uses a zetec turbo engine in his focus and that has over 660bhp

The Megulars Focus in the States has well over 1000 bhp out of the Zetec too.

Do your research first.

Galaxy motor is based on the RS2000/scorpio engine and is not a zetec, heavy old block with chain driven cams. Bore spacing is the same as 2 litre giving less material between cylinders for strength and gasket sealing.

sunny if you had done your home work - you would know that i'm correct on this one - i do know exactly how much your head can flow also.

of course you can get more power if you run nos - the head flow is not important here

Nah it's shit...ask Mike as he knows everything!

Mike - don't talk rubbish.....Ian might of told you a few things about my old spec but please.....don't go on saying you know more than me about my own engine. You need to sort out what your own engine is first! Besides, when did I say my head was anything special!? It's crap...hence the times my car has run + the super flow dyno is going to be talking shit also hey....as usual Mike you know best. Regardless I've just learnt to agree with you.

Lets talk facts...real facts. I know what your old head / inlet flowed + what your new Ian Howell spec head will do. Great this conversation isn't it!!!!

Now...go back and read my reply again.....over 500hp is available without NOS.

Thanks - Sunny.

Didi my super picture of that Zetec engine get missed?

It's from Will Gollop's rallycross car and rund over 600bhp so why can't the head flow over 500?

I'm confused?

Exactly Pon. Also it's worth baring in mind that we are still talking about std zetec casting cylinder heads.
It's not easy to obtain such power from Zetecs as it is from Cosworths (as YB's are a proper race spec engine to start off with where as the Zetec's are quite the oppersite in comparison) - clearly only a handfull of people have proven such results.

Thanks - Sunny.

Right, I'm gonna make this really easy.

Is that picture I posted of Will Gollop's Zetec turbo Focus?

Is it running a standard cast Zetec head?

Is it running over 600bhp?

When I said standard, I OBVIOUSLY didn't mean standard size ports etc, but as far as FIA and RAC MSA regs go, it should have to be a standard Zetec head of origin.

The pic I posted shows the Megulars Zetec Drag motor developing over 1000bhp

If it was sub 500bhp then it wouldn't be pulling sub 9 sec quarters

My engine develops similar power outputs at similar boost levels to a cossy engine but mine is modified.

Mike seems to know a little knowlege about head flow rates

Go on then Mike, what does a standard zetec head flow at 0.5" valve lift on the inlet side with 10" of water and whats the best CFM you mananged out of a cossy head then?

Flow rate does depend on type of casting on the Zetec, (model car and year), so for Mike's sake we will make it easy for him and say a early Mondeo Zetec head.

I would like you to give us all a lesson in head flow between the Cosworth head and the Zetec head. Please also quote figures and where you have got them from.

Facts please, Opinion is no good.

Standard 2000cc Zetec complete engine is 127.5kg

Cossy engines weigh alot more than this. (about 150kg +)

Austen - how you doing pal?

In fairness Shaun's cylinder cyliner head (the 1000hp zetec in the States) was a complete custom cast done by Mike at BCE Racing heads however he still used the same UK CGI blocks. I know this as he is a personal friend of mine and we communicate on regular basis. Also my friends Esslinger totally agree that your talking complete nonsense Mike.

Anyway - over to you with an in-depth reply to mine and Austen's comments please seeing as you know so much.

Thanks - Sunny.

Hi Kam, hopefully mate.

I've made the following changes since last year :-

new turbo
new intercooler
new exhaust manifold
new inlet manifold
new cams
new ecu
new injectors
cylinder head

That's all I am saying on here. Hopefully it does what it's done in the past which is what it's supposed to do.

Thanks - Sunny.

i would honestly say it depends on how much cash is availible, fair enough the yb is a motorsport engine but the zetec is a lot newer in design and engine technology

if you were talking 5 grand then the cossie would win... 50 grand and things would start to become competitive

just my 2p worth
