Right, just bought my self my first ford, its a 1991 escort xr31 cabriolet, 1.6EFi. As far as the basics go im pretty well skilled, mechanicle and cosmetics, thing is its my first cab and i have no idea where to start with it, Transmition is blown but have the new box going in tomorow other than that it runs rough as has been stood for 9 months!
Im guessing a good service and a blast down the bypass should sort all my teething problems no trouble!

Now heres the thing, Its got the electric roof and it doesnt want to work, has 2 buttons in the center next to the hand break, both seem to opperate fine but there is just no reaction to pressing them? there is another button just above the roof controlls which i have no idea to the use of? is a 10mm push button just your basic on off push switch, has this got anything to do with the roof??? i cant test at the moment as there is no battery in the car, want to get the tranny done before i start messing about with it. i tried the normal controlls when i ran the car home but didnt have time to mess with it then as the battery had to come straight out and go back in my m8's car...

So, any ideas as to what could be rong with the roof plz do tell

 

check the oil level in the roof motor which is in the back drivers side my mate had a problem like that and as soon as he topped up the oil it worked fine

 

right checked the oil resevoir and no joy there, the pump is in the rear passenger side in the boot, i have got the roof up and down manualy by winding the presure right off on the pump, but just no responce to the controlls!!
think its gunna b multi meter time

 

to start with the ingnition has to be on accessory for the roof to operate. . . .the button above the roof switch is to lock off the rear windows. . . .make sure the t-bar on the pump is turned fully clockwise for elec operation. . .if still no good, behind the kick plate adj to the gas pedal is a 15amp fuse and the pump relay. . . . . if i think of anything else ill let you know
