Default 4wd cosworth transmission what power

its been asked before but what would be the max power this transmission can take

no hard hard launches as i will limit myself not to this time

as i had 330 before and kept destroying 2nd synchro

i will be running 3.6 diffs aswell if that makes any difference

ill be looking at aroung 450bhp for the engine will i get away with it if i treat it nice and no hard launches

Most people say 350bhp is its limit

However, ive thought about going above this and asked around before.

If you treat it with respect then 400bhp can be ok.

Not sure about 450 though ?

I would like to see anybody buy/build a 400 brake engine then treat the gearbx with respect ...

Might aswell leave it std

I blew mine with 320 brake... anyway its torque that matters..

whatever power, if you're going to launch the fuck out of it, its going to break.

If you're treating it well.. then I guess 350- 400 will take its toll.. if you have big boost peaks (read.. high torque)

i keep killing boxes in my stage 3 saff

They get really noisey on over run in 3rd 4th 5th, sounds like the box is falling out.

as far as i know you have to have a 4wd bell housing welded onto the box , make the transfer box in the tunnel wider and obviously gear box mounts aswell

then just have props made up to suit the box

but i have no idea how much it costs, i can do the tunnel myself and the get the props done at a local company or zoo motorsport

just dont know about the bell housing or mounts

What i'm interested to know is, firstly, when people destroy there boxes with stage 1 and say the boxes are shite, they forget to mention that the car has done about 120k, I blew a greabox into a million bits before, it's not that hard, car had done +80k, got a new box, turned up the boost and it hasn't given me any bother and i do launch it regularly, off traffic lights! Car is just stage 3 BTW. I think 400 would be ok, but not if u just used it for trackdays etc.... time will tell i guess.

I fail to see what synchros have to do with power. Revs and rations if anything. But you would probably destroy them the same if 200bhp and 400bhp, it's a matter of how you change gears.

xr4x4rs itmust be something with gearbox assembling, or gearchange or gearbox oil. I hae no idea how power could influence synchro wear. One or two misshifts can fuck the gearbox up though.

4 boxes
8 rebuilds
in 18 months
i should have bought a quaife box in the first place

one of my "NEW" boxes lasted a total of 23 miles before it went tits up and that was in fifth going along the motorway and not even giving it mucho beans

mind you, the original box i lost 4th gear in
then the next box i scrapped at one of the revs days at brunters

but i've never had 3rd gear go (but i had put cogs out the side casing of the box before and fook me thats something you never want to do )

i did get a guy to build me a box when me and mob did our 5th gear top end mod and that was fine no matter how hard i ragged it
pity the engine made like a chocolate firegaurd and melted 3 weeks later

is there any way that the T5 can be made to get 4wd then?

When my box went the first time it was 3rd gear. It distroyed the whole gearbox as the debris floated round in the moving parts!

Then got another box built by Bernie and how it survived 2 years of my constant abuse before 3rd went AGAIN i will never know

Think it all depends on your driving style. I really have no recpect for my transmission and it done well while it lasted

Might be worth a E-Mail/Phone call

i phoned cts up today and they said i would be advised to go quaife box and diffs but looking at 6k which tbh i have no where near that at the minute

as ive said wim going to have to leave it alnoe for now and treat it gently if it goes it goes but no harm in trying with what i have
