Default Insurance question

A friend of mine bought a cheap runabout car a few years ago and went to trade it in and the dealer said it was a cat b write off. If he had an accident where would he stand with the insurance company as regards a pay out?

Cat B isn't allowed back on the road! If he had an accident I imagine getting a payout would be extremely difficult.

Smoke is correct, cat B is salvage for parts only and not allowed back on the road.

Kind regards
