Default Bought a classic beast for having a go a track in (non ford)

Ebay bargin, had an obsessive owner who kept a 'diary' detailing everything done to the car, down to what type of antifreeze and how much put it, tyre treads, bloody allsorts (theres even a newspaper clipping of it for sale at a garage in 1989 £5k odd!)

Least have bit of a chance of keeping up on track days, whilst getting used to them and doesn't matter if it gets binned!

You are thinking of the MAESTRO.

This is still a good car though, I've had a couple of them

How much was it?

We cained the fcuk out of one around Coombe a number of times. Only problem was a rad hose - it was old and knackered.

There was an MG Metro too, but I dunno if it was a turbo.

Man, I actually feel sorry for the previous owner.... he's obviously loved that car like a son, and you're going to take it now and thrash the shit out of it

Classic is the word you looking for Andy (don't forget still got the 'ru for everyday use and cossie for the weekend car!) there is a charity track day at RAF Marham near Swaffham 22/23 April £60 by pistonheads

Apparently out of 7,000 Montys produced only 190 are still registered (that doesn't mean 'on the road')

The front springs have been clamped at some point (I'm not keen) but we'll give it a test at Marham. A couple of places still supply lowering springs for it, but took a bit of research I can tell you!

Got redstuff pads and discs coming for it, green wouldn't last too long under the heat apparently

Over the weekend changed it cam belt, alt belt and pas belt and clutch cable, change the brakes and give it an oil change see how he goes, doesn't puff any smoke, ok not hugely powerful, but enough (circa 180bhp according to paperwork)

Montego Turbos are rarer than Maestros these days, much rarer.
Not quite as cool tho, but samr 2litre 8valve SU Carb fed turbo tho.

And Metro Turbos are dead rare, lot more Metro Turbo powered Minis these days than actual Metro Turbos.

How much you pay? Dead cheap?

Few hundred quid I've insured it on classic policy for fully comp £170, have to fill in a form and send of some photos, but where it says what is your estimation of its value I haven't got a betty boo, I mean there are zero for sale as a rough guide, I have no idea what it is actually worth

The Maestro Turbo had a book figure of 6.7 to 60 and that was way back in like 1989 or something!
(There used to be a choccy biscuit called Montego when I was a kid - and I bet it looks better than one of BL's finest! Probably resists melting better too!)
