Need to know the easiest and cleanest way of removing waxoil from the underneath of the car.

Prior to putting my car into professional storage in 1992, while I was working in the USA, I put the car on a four poster ramp and spent two days cleaning the underneath of the car all the way back to it's original white paint. It came up like a genuine concourse car (But it was only just three years old at the time). I knew it would protect the car from any dampness, even though it was in de-humidified storage.... I guess I was just playing it safe.

Well, the car remained in storage until 2003, when I took it out of professional storage and took it home to my nice new house where I could now keep it in my heated garage. Now I'm back home permanently, I now have the time to take care of it, and regularly inspect and keep it in tip top condition, so now I want to remove all that waxoil I put on the underside of the car all those years ago..........So..What's the easiest and cleanest way of taking/getting it off.

I did one of the front inner wheel arches and it came up like new, but this took me about five hours, there must be a better/easier way.

I'd leave it on there mate...........this ain't the US and the car isn't in storage any more so you need to protect her. She's bound to be a nice one seeing as she wasn't used for 10 years...........leave her as is to protect her.

If you are hell bent on taking it off, petrol is best...............

 

All I want to remove is the waxoil that's gathered dust over the years and now looks dirty. The original ford white paint is still immaculate. I just need to get the waxoil off, and polish up the paint as in the pick. (I don't want to remove the original paint as it's mint)

 

Honest mate, if you want to clean it up take the old stuff off and put new clean waxoyl on. Honestly. This isn't the US, it gets cold and wet here and unless you are going to store the car correctly in the winter I wouldn't leave the paint bare.

If you use the car all year it will be ruined very quickly. If you plan on storing the car, you need a Carcoon etc

 

Really want to clean it all off, and then just re-apply to any joins etc. The sills and chassis rail areas were totally filled with waxoil, so I just want to clean off the flat areas. It never intentionally goes out in the wet, so a dry weather car really. Always off the road during the winter too.

 

OK, you should be alright but all I'd say is over the winter FFS make sure you store her properly ............you need a Carcoon mate.

WD40..Yep, that's what I used to clean underneath the front wing..... Gets Expensive though.....Lol, but it does seem to work.

i'd suggest trying some brake and clutch cleaner (worked very well cleaning loads of stuff for me,never tried on waxoyl though)

or petrol

 

white spirits on a rag works a treat
