Sounds like a daft idea really, but you cant argue with the touring car ones proving the fact that it isnt!

Have to be an estate if you do it

Because new spoiler regulations made it impossible to run the estates.

Yeah, before that touring car spoilers had to fit into a theoretical box on the back of the cars. It just so happened that the volvo estates were within regulations. They were changed though due to everyone agreeing the estate had an unfair advantage as It actually flowed air alot better that anyone imagined.

Too big, heavy and FWD is less fun than 4wd or RWD.

there's your answer

would go through consumables like tyres and brakes discs/pads very quickly

lightweight is king on a track, power means nothing

If you need any info on track prep on a Volvo 850R speak to Stuart at www.swautos.co.uk

Their are a lot better cars to get for the track for the money but a stripped out T5 manual with coilovers brake kit would be different, Stuart managed a 13.0 dead quarter in his modified 850R at Avon park 2 weeks ago which ain't to shabby !

Here's a couple of still's from my camcorder at Brands, i was following my mate in his 850R auto ( my 850 R is exactly the same spec & colour ) i was in my 3dr cossie, it was quite amusing sitting behind him for a lap watching it lurch about & smoke pouring of the tyres were he had no traction out of most bends, the brakes were cooked after 4 laps !
The funny thing was he did go past a few things but thats more because he does race cars & knows what to do on track.

Ive got an 850R and would never dream of putting it on track,
Brakes arent upto much on them but then again i guess it dont help with it being an auto.

the standard brakes are pony agreed. Also after 140k my suspension has seen better days.

what do you think of your 850R now that you have had it a few weeks ?
