Default Air Box for Cone Filters..............????

At National Day last year, I noticed that all of the RS500 Touring Cars were running with Air Boxes, containing their Cone Filters. Obviously I know this is a huge advantage as it prevents the intake of warm air from the engine bay.......

So a couple of questions :

1. Does anyone fabricate these, and if so, where can I get one.

2. If no one makes them for the general public (Us), then has anyone made one and do you have the templates ???

Cheers

A genuine 500 air box with panel filter is supposed to be ideal but are hard to come by. Bailey do a lid for your normal air box as that is the only difference. But for a full "cold air box with integral cone filter" SPEC-R are the guys to see!

So is the front face of these boxes open?. (ie. the face closest to the bumper) or do they have some holes cut out of the front for air ducting?

REMEMBER though.

Unrestrictivness is the main thing.

Ive seen more a few cossie cone filter box things that have restricted the performance more than running without them.

Ie you might have lower ACTs (ever checked/tested on road? IIRC its not much at all) but if its restricting airflow your losing out even more than before.

dont think people realise how hot under the bonnet gets....

was doing abit of testing the other day after fitting my new air box and found that the side closest to the turbo actually get red hot...

made up a wee heat sheild and things are not much better...

any cone that is not properly sealed off from the turbo must be sucking in hot air

Didn’t MadRod fabricate one of these for his some time ago? I too have been thinking about making one of these or rather buying one when Jim completes his prototype

Dave, that green thing looks like some kind of pressure accumulator thing to me.
Blue is deffo oil filter tho.

I know them WRC carbon ones are restrictive on big big power motors, at what BHP that is, i cant remember tho.

Ian, do you reckon you have room for a mirror image breather in between the airbox and turret??

Kev,

Not 100% sure mate...but the air box does have quite a big lip you could trim back....I can certainly measure it for you if you want....

Just done a search, cant find it now, but there was a guy on e-bay doing a moulded plastic version, last one I got was about £250 in glass/carbon mix, the one on the wrc car is full carbon they're about £4 - 500.
