Has anyone successfully drilled their block to take a EFI cps? If so has anyone got any pictures? I'm a bit jubious about doing it and also wanted to see how others have done theirs

It will be coming out......the reason i ask is because on a factory set up the hole is very big, and that adapter plate bolts in, then the sensor goes into that, i wonder if anyone has done it any other way, but then i should imagine its tricky getting the clearance right.

Indeed, it's dead easy. I have the dimensions also somewhere! As Nigel says, the best way to do it is use a vertical milling machine.

Hmmm, problem is the engine isn't being stripped down its only done 3.5k on a re-build. So its not going to be easy getting a whole engine on a milling machine surely?

 

Mag drill then would be your answer!

A drill that has an electromagnetic base. You can switch it on, and it will hold itself to the end of your block, allowing you to drill at a perfect 90degrees.

I have rented one before from a local engineering company.

Paid about £20 for a couple of days.

a decent milling machine will easily fit the engine on it
the one ive got waiting to do is a short block with sump on still

i think its a 30mm bore and a seperate m6 hole

 

Thats the problem though my engine has the head and everything still on it, and i'll be damned if its coming off i've already had the head off once in 3.5k miles

 

mag drill your best bet any local hire station will hire them out vcheap

Just fit a bottom pulley with the trigger setup built into it.

£45 Job done

Bolt it on and away you go

I presume you use the sierra 1800 pulley yeah?

 

I drilled mine with a hand drill and the engine still in the car. Dead easy.

What a load of waffle mate.. Who told you that you have to drop the engine..

It make it so easy to change a belt that you dont even need to take the bottom pulley off Nothing to do with droping the engine...

 

Well you haven't answered the question i asked you yet. Using a sierra bottom pulley (which is what i asked you and you didnt reply to) you HAVE to drop the engine.

Maybe im just lost without the pretty pictures.

 

dude with that setup you do NOT have to drop the engine to change belts.

Yes it is the same looking setup as the sierra

 

How are you meant to get the belt past the pulley???

 

how thick do you think a cam belt is?

I do regular cam belt changes for many RS's, none of them have the engine dropped!

Well i'm sure where theres a will theres a way like anything but i don't fancy pinching the belt forcing it through a small gap. I didn't think the pulley would allow a good clearance?

No, that's not the one. That's just the first image google gave for a step drill.

 

Ah ok I was looking at the block again yesterday and its only about 4mm thick isn't it? Is the material very hard to drill through?

 

It's very soft actually.

 

Fantastic I was going to ask where you got your drill bit from but i see your from finland. Unless you bought it online?

 

i use one virtually every day, if you did not live so far away, i would
