Default what v6 do i have?

hi,

newbie here, just got my hands on a pretty rank V6, from what i'm led to believe its from a sierra, i'm pretty sure its an essex?! but the guy wasn't to sure on the size, however it is an injection model and had a 4x4 sump attached to it! any ideas guys and gals as to its exact model? I should of asked more question but I only paid a fiver on ebay for what was essentially a garden ornament!! the engine number is 6j57645, any help?

thanks in advance

if it's got an inlet manifold without EFI written on it thenit's going to be a 2.8
if it HAS got efi written on it then it's going to be a 2.9

was there not some 2.8s fitted with EFI tho,
easest way to tell between 2.8 and 2.9
2.8 has four exhaust ports and 2.9 has 6 exhaust ports.

2.8 has four exhaust ports and 2.9 has 6 exhaust ports.
they were only found in the granadas
unless someone has gone through all the effort of swapping them over that is, or even having some US spec 2.8 6 port heads shipped over

To be honest I doubt any modification work has been done on it, every bolt seems to be welded on as tho the engine has never been apart. while were on about the v6, is there anyway to improve the air flow through the 4 into 6 inlet manifold, as I believe its a major restriction?

Also do you know of a good supplier of tuning and performance parts for one of these lumps? my rocker shaft looks a little scored up where the rockers have been going at it, i think there has been an oil flow problem at some point as scoring of the shells, big ends and little ends seems to be quite common, so i figure stick a hot cam in while its in pieces.

not being a 2.8 man myself, i think your best bet is to find a bloke called "Taps"
i'm not sure if he posts here or not but i know that there is a mark with a taps built 2.9 who posts here
and considering his has got an extra 39 horses over the standard 2.9 with just a rebuild, i'm sure he'll point you in the right direction
