As some of you may know i've been looking at numerous Series 1's lately!

Basically I thought i'd found the right one at the weekend so arranged with the guy to go and see it...

... I got it HPI checked before I left and it came back as a Cat C write off back in 1998!

Spoke to the guy and he claimed to know nothing about it, then the same day (sunday) he dropped the price on Autotrader by £250 and stuck it on ebay without even mentioning the write off!

The reg is C744 UWP, so stay away from it and save yourselves some hassle!

Thats where I got it done mate, £9.95 + VAT and they send you the results in a proper certificate immediately by email so you can print it, safe to say it's the best tenner i've spent in a long time!

I know mate, I'm glad Adam (AdamS2rst) got me to HPI check it first, I saved myself 3 hours driving and everythint else to go with it!

rs shawn Yup thats the one Shawn mate, the guy who owns it at the mo said he bought it from ebay 2 years ago, but the HPI report also showed he has only just registered the car in his name in Feb of this year!

sounds like a lying shit but cat c dont mean much, i had a cabbie a while back got hit up the arse, only bent bumper and cracked rear lens, estimator came look at car, cause bonnet was slightly off colour too he said it needed new bumper, new light and full respray totalling about £800 and valued car at £1200 so wrote it off but car was fine, insurance estimators are wankers

 

Insurance estimators arnt wankers at all mate They're just doing a job!

Unless you've got an agreed value policy then a 15+yr old Ford Escort aint worth squat to them is it!

Plus on the other note, Cat C might not be much but judging by some of the cowboys out there and the way the guy has acted since I 'told' him, I for one am not prepared to take that chance, i'll send you the link for the car on ebay now if you like mate, if you can tell me that the front end matches (i.e wings aligned, colour etc) then something aint right with your eyesight! lol

 

Andy has just been having a few issues with his brakes which have also been doing my head in as well as his!!!

It's just irritating that there is fuck all left on the car that hasn't been checked and it's not playing the game.

I do indeed mate, however I dont tend to deal with classic or modified cars in particular so don't really see many RS's get scrapped...

correct me if im wrong but when it gets cat c once repaired it has to go to vosa to get checked, unless another way round not sure, but as far as im aware you cannot get mot for it until it has been there, anyway i totally agree about that car, the bloke just sounded like a lying shit anyway and good luck in your search for s1

 

Not sure mate, I think your right about it being inspected again and then of course passing a normal MOT.

no offense taken mate!!! it is rare that i see an old ford but when i do im all for saving it insurance is a difficult one to lokk into really i have my mk3 valued & insured that way but it still dont guarentee an exact amount
cat c are not that bad depending on circumstance to be honest i used to buy salvage repair it & move it on but as you say it has to have a vic test
wach wrecks to riches on sky on a tuesday that will tell you all about it

in the UK and i do a lot of agreed value Policies and i like to think that
I'm very fair when inspecting vehicles.
