I know its a long shot, but in my opinion theres no better place to ask!
Does anyone know where/if the engine in the sport/street ka can be tuned, AT ALL ?
Ive got a filter and exhaust, but i really want to make the car faster, preferably without changing the engine ?
Superchips dont do a bluefin for it, van aken dont make a turbo, ive seen random places ive never heard of advertising *16bhp* from a remap for like £250 and that seems WAY to good to be true....
Can someone shed any light? ive done so much searching and asking, this engine must be the most unmoddable ford lump ever
Thanks in advance peeps

Contact Guzzler from Power Engineering in Middlesex, they will remap anything
I'd have thought you could get Kent or Pipercross to make up a lumpier Camshaft for you, try ringing them
Then one of these fabrications places could do a better exhaust manifold? AFAIK the duratec isn;t a great deal different from the zetecs or even the early ohv engine, so throttle bodies/carburettor conversion could also be a possibility?
As for turbo'ing, by the time you spent out money getting the engine capable of running the correct CR, management etc etc it'd work out hell of a lot cheaper to do a cvh conversion as you have a 1.6 8v anyway and the bits are far easier to get hold of

16bhp sounds optimistic but i can believe it... do superchips not do a chip for it?
as paddy said if you fancy a turbo fitting an RST lump would be the easiest way.. although thats not for the faint hearted on a KA...
the 1.6 8v duratec is just a bored out 1300... van aarken do one for the 1300 - unless thats only for the old pushrod one and not the 1.3 duratec i don't know...
the sportKA is a class little car to drive - great gearbox, do you get frustrated with it topping out at 110?

I had a rover 220 turbo before the sportka so i reckon i could handle an rst lump in this car
van aken do a turbo for the old endura engine, not the duratec
hits limiter in 5th at 127mph (indicated), but poop on motorways, but i love the close ratios!

my engine is "properly" a duratec... its called a Zetec Rocam, and its 8v cos its a tight squeeze in my engine bay, 2.0 zetec can be done, i just have no idea of prices. Puma 1.7 zetec se lump costs £3000 to be put in, to take me from 109bhp (currently) to 120bhp ish, thats 11bhp for 3 grand. Yes the newer engine will have lots more potential, but ill be skint after the conversion......... hmmmmmmmmmmmm ! ideas
2.0 zetecs can be bought from £50 upwards - you can get a complete taxed and tested mondeo for a few hundred quid - then theres a bit of work to fit it - the 2.0s more powerful than the 1.7 more torquey - and only a tiny bit heavier, plus theres bags of tuning potential - fitting a 1.7 unless it was an FRP engine would be a waste and an FRP engine's gonna cost you a fortune
Visit Steve Wyndham website (www.stevewyndhamracing.com). He does camshafts and exhaust manifolds for Rocam 1.6 (Duratec 8V).
I reach 153hp in my Rocam 1.6 naturally aspirated with: SWR stage 2 camshaft + reworked header + 13,0:1 compression ration (100% ethanol)... Gear cut at 7500rpm. Excelent car for track days!!!

did you really reach 127mph on a standard engine!? id never of thought that! ive got a sportka to, but ive never tried top end, i know its doin bang on 4000rpm at about 80 - 85mph which i wasnt very impressed with!
