Default Wire rung

what does this mean?its just annoying me when i read it in specs and i dnt know what it means.plus if i know what it is then i can start wanting it to! lol!

Pretty sure this is only for cars with piston liners, they basically are "wire rung" (wire wrapped) around the outside of the liners to strengthen them.

If thats wrong no doubt someone will come and shoot me down

had it done on me old engine


its a old group trick


with head gaskets how they are now not reallt needed

Wire ringing a block;

This process is carried out by cutting a circle around each of the cylinders on the face of the block...wire is then fitted into the cut out leaving part of the wire higher than the block surface.

Theese wire(rings) then bite into the headgasket providing additional clamping force when the head and bottom end are torqued together.

This is the only picture i can find of my block.

Basically they machine a small grove and insert steel wire to give extra clamping of the head gasket around the cylinders.

Just to stop my brain doing overtime what is it called when they wrap wire round liners for future reference?

The wire is usually normal square profile electrical earthing wire if I remember correctly.

And just to check aswell as that quote seemed somewhat "oblivious" if you should see smoking coming out the back its probably a wise idea to slow down a touch
