Wire ringing a block;

This process is carried out by cutting a circle around each of the cylinders on the face of the block...wire is then fitted into the cut out leaving part of the wire higher than the block surface.

Theese wire(rings) then bite into the headgasket providing additional clamping force when the head and bottom end are torqued together.
