taking my car apart today and i found this

drivers side

passenger side


its the bottom of the front wing which the bumper attatches to.

it has rusted and has got a sizeable hole in it and the bracket behind it is pretty rusty too.

will i be able to cut it off and weld a new one on or is it not gonna be as simple as that?

I had some grot there, but it wasn't as bad as that It was repaired, I'll dig out some pics.......

guess im gonna have to take it down to the bodyshop and see what they say.

slightly pissed off as its the first bit of rust i have found. everything else (battery tray, bulhead, underneath) is perfect.

ah well its just gonna have to wait a bit longer for its new gearbox isn't it.

 

I wouldn't worry, most Escort mk4 are fooked there...

It shouldn't cost too much I reckon to dig that out and spray it. It will be hidden behind the bumper so it doesn't have to be an amazing job, as long as it is grot free.

is there any way to check apart from taking bumber off?

 

petermintrst not really as the wheel arch liner hides it anyway.

probably easier to just take the liner off the arches than the bumper and you will see it just as clearly.

im not too bothered how it looks when repaired, check out my dodgy spray job in the first picture of my wheel arch!

do you reckon i will be able to drive to the bodyshop without a front bumper without getting caught!? lol

 

u dont need bumpers by law, as long as ur number plate is on display and there is nothing hanging off and hittin the floor, ur legal

how did you sort that out then?

mine looks a bit worse than that, especially the drivers side as it actually has holes in it

 

I didn't do it myself but the actual bracket was removed from the car and sand blasted and the rotten piece on the wing was cut out and a new piece welded in place and then the bracket was welded to that.

 

will sugest this to the chap at the bodyshop, im worried that the bumper is gonna sit wonky after i fix it!

im sure it'll be fine though.

 

Depends if he has liners fitted. If not, jack the sides up, axle-stand it for safety & take the wheels off & stick your head inside.
