Just for info all you FRS owners, I went to my local ford dealer to get my car checked for a small knock that was coming from the steering. I thougt it would be a drive bush or something but turns out I need whole new steering rack at about £600 fitted. Luckily I'm still in warranty so ford is picking up the tab I also said there was some shudder when braking so the mechanic checked the discs and they were warped and guess what the discs are also coverd by warranty So if any of you guys are still in warranty get down and get your steering racks checked out as it could save you some money, my car has only done 25K miles.

Not being thick but, is it easy to tell if it's the steering rack which is knocking? any way of testing to eliminate it.

Mine is going in for a new strut because of a knocking and they say this should sort it , this part is not covered by the warranty.

I can feel it over bumps through the steering wheel and feels like the knocking is on the driver side. It's not that bad but I can feel it and would like it sorted.

 

Just take car down your local dealer and have them check it out, ask them to specifically check the rack for probs. The mechanic didn't show me the problem just said it needed replaced. Like you though I could feel/hear it knocking going slowly over speed bumps.

Cheers K, will get the technician to check the rack when it goes in just to be on the safe side in two weeks time.

I will let you know the outcome and what was done,....and if it cured the knocking.

 

I had to get one on my FRS about a year ago now. It was under warranty as well

 

What miles did you have on clock? I only had 25K

 

Mines going in tomorrow to have this done, only 25000 miles aswell

Just got car back with new steering rack and new standard discs, everything so far seems ok and knocking has disapeared.

 

Mine going in next Saturday for the knocking, a new strut is being fitted......but you got me thinking now!
