And MOST importantly, a bias valve.

I disagree there. I think it is a best to not use a bias valve. There is nothing quite like it when you get that warm feeling in your pants when you brake hard at 120+ mph pushing some turbo'ed Honda thing along the motorway and the car lunges towards the crash barrier.

Isn't that right Damo?

2wd calipers are the same as normal sierra calipers (those with rear discs that is) so muchos cheaper to nick em off a 1.6GL or something in the scrappy

altho saying that, new calipers aint all that expensive anyhow

But if u have front brakes that are larger ie 325mm front and 278mm at back would u still need a bias valve?

Yes you need a bias valve if its the same brake setup as Tony........

Picture the sceneIm driving Tony's car M11... 120 - 130mph, right behind a Honda civic / accord IIRC..... for no reason whatsoever, he decides to brake???!!!! My reaction was to do the same obviously, at which point the N/S rear wheel decided it actually wanted to be an O/S front wheel!!!! The back end Properly tried coming round, which wasnt a funny experience at the time in an unfamiliar car!!!!!!! PROPER brown trouser moment !!

or the right sized discs to suit the application

273mm cossie discs are too big for the size/weight of an escort - mainstream sierra discs at 20mm less diameter (and cheaper ) are fine. Obviously different brackets are needed to position the calipers 10mm closer to the hub centre to suit the smaller disc

I can't grasp the sense in oversizing the brakes then doing extra work to limit the amount of braking effort available to compensate??

limits the hydraulic brake line pressure to the back brakes (and hence the amount of braking effort), that we've just spent good money upgrading

i have standard calipers on the from, the 300mm drilled disc's,running EBC green pads - with 2wd calipers on the rear,275mm drilled disc's,running normal EBC pads - this is with braided hoses and dot 5 brake fluid.

I have found me braking spot on - even on the brake tester ,at an mot place - they we all set up with the correct bias.

I DONT NOT have any sort of bias valve.

The spacer's were something i made up,as the ones you get, dont quite fit right - cant remember the size's

The 4x4 cossie caliper and the ST170 caliper is the same its only the carrier that is different to house the 300mm disc

cheers again everyone,

ah didn't know that steve, I was going to swap as my brakes for the ST ones as my cossie ones are shite, but I dont know why?? (i realised this after picking my RS2000 up and the brakes on that are quality compared to the RST)

so if im using 4x4 caliper and 278mm discs up front, what rear set up should I go for?

also which discs are 283mm what I could use? are they cossie 2wd fronts?

cheers
