Default 1988 Sapphire Front Spoiler Sagging - Advice needed.

Hey chaps,

I hear this is a common priblem amongst Sapphires so I was wondering if anyone had ever had their front spoiler repaired to stop the droopy smile they get over time.
Mines getting pretty bad so I'm trying to weigh up my options.
- Is the whole front spoiler still available from Ford new?
- Are there any places that make good replicas?
- Are they easy to repair and repaint?.
Any advice would be great.

Cheers guys,

Ollie.

ps. Here's a picture of my front spoiler, I'll take a picture from the side tomorrow and post it up here as it looks shocking

Hi Snow, They are still avaiable from ford (£40 + vat), but with mine I drilled several small holes through the front spoiler and into the bumper (on the lip) and use small alloy rivets to pull it back up. It now fits better than when I first purchased the car 3 years ago. Hope this helps.

I would personally go for a Good second hand bumper and a Replica RS 500 Splitter

I would try putting a jack in the middle and gently pushing the bumper up as far as it will go, my missus nudged my bumper into a curb and it went the same as yours. Now i think but not sure that they have got a metal reinforcement bar running through the bottom. Its worth a try and you got nothing to loose either as you cant crack it...... It worked for me

You can try to dig out ALL the old foam in the bumper. mount it on a workbench upside down use heat and force it in to the original shape. use some planks or someting to hold it like that for a while and apply new foam! this has worked for others!

My misunderstanding I took it to mean the button splitter. Sorry, the bumpers are still available from Ford. They no longer come colour coded although the part numbers are still there. I had a new one (bumper + splitter + towing eye cover) from Ford about 4 months ago. To supply + paint the bumper and fit the splitter and put it back on the car cost the insurance company £1245.

Crickey, not cheap then...
Good to know they are still available new though
Yes I had a look at mine last night and found the the metal bracket that runs from the middle at the bottom is actually snapped.
Is the front spoiler easy to remove from the vehicle?

Easy as long as your side mounts are'nt rotten/don't snap

Two 13mm bolts, one each side behind the under arch plastic liner, then the bumper should just slide out forwards

Theres two metal brackets that slide inside the chassis legs through some big square rubber grommet things
