Do they suffer the same fate as on the old RST's?. Mine is clicking like a goodun' and the pedal feels a bit crap every now and again before the rachet takes up the slack. Is this potentially going to leave me stranded soon if not sorted, or is it just an annoyance?

I'd change it mate just to be on the safe side, i think we all know what a pain in the arse the mk3/mk4's are when it comes to ratchets
Edited to say, thou i never had a problem with the one im my esc cos in the past 5 years of ownership.

Paul,
Is your clutch pedal quite heavy in use? If so, then the nylon rachet may be damaged and would need replacing.
I have a standard rachet (94 Es Cos) being used with an Alcon paddle/std cover plate, and as this is no heavier than a standard clutch I have had no problems with the actual rachet.
However, if your turbo heat shield is not protecting the clutch cable properley, then the inner cable will rub the damaged outer part and the chutch will feel heavy - and may wear/break the rachet. In this case the cure would be a new cable + lots of reflective heat lag around the cable where it passes near the turbo, new rachet also a new turbo heat shield may be needed.
Ultimate cure is to get Martin Hadland to convert your car to hydralic clutch opperation.........not too expensive - I may take that route soon

CheeRS Doug, will check it out. It doesn't feel overly heavy and hasn't got heavier, just clicky and occasionally feels like it misses a tooth on the ratchet.
Will probably change it though to be on the safe side before the ring
Yeah, I broke a cable on mine 2 years ago, for a while now it cllicks occasionally, when I launched it recently, something stranged happened, it just slipped and the pedal was at the top, got home slipping everytime on boost, checked it and pulled the cable out of the bulkhead in the engine bay, then popped it back in, pedal went back to normal positionl clutch was fine didnt slip at all??? Put it doenwn to the rachet, BUT went to Ford to pick up a new one, turns out there are 3 colours availiable apparantly, of which mine wasnt one of the choices????
Was told to take it off, bring it down and match it up, still havent got round to it, so will be interesting to see what you get told

Apparently he's fed up with his cobra and is selling up. I used to work in the same department as he did, but bumped into him again the other day.
