I have noticed recently, that when i nail it through the gears 9 times out of ten it never goes from second to third without crunching, what is causing this? any ideas??
I have the same problem going from 4th to 5th (crunch), if i pause for a second midway it's OK. A pain in the ass when you have a fast car.
Any solutions anybody ?????
same as mine shit from 2nd to 3rd and also after a very long run when coming down gears for roundabouts etc third whynes and sounds fooked.. after a few minutes of turning the car off , and back on the move again its fine no noise and the odd crunch into 3rd but only when hammering it.. its only done about 2k since being re built.
rebuild time. kit from gearboxman, download manual, remove 5th gear (good luck with that ), stick all new parts in and it'll drive like new. the best thing i did to mine
i dont think this is one for doing my self as its a 4x4 as i am not convinced it would all go back together
4X4 MT 75 box is still available from ford as i have replaced two in my car as it munched the box that was in the car when i aquired it and then munched the replacement just after 5K and just after the years warranty was up, first box cost just short of 500 quid, second box my mate at ford worked wonders with the trade and i walked away with the box for 396 quid, transfer box is no longer available so it will have to be swapped off of your old box so it is best for a professional to do the job for you, big horsie power in 4x4 cossies=headaches with the drive train, best solution imo is the quaife box but it costs silly money.
