Default England Starting Lineup

I know theres is another post but was wondering what peoples starting lineup would be ?

I appreciate what beckham has done for england and think hes still an ok player but he really does not cut it for england. We cant keep hangin on to what he did against greece years back and a few free kicks. Look at the diffrence shaun wright philips made when he cam on !! Neville can stay cause there is no one else but we lack pace on the right. Alls beckham offers is a good cross and is no where near as fit as he was (closing down ala greece).

Erikson is NEVER gonna drop him though Would be such a brave move !

Also, ferdinand is a world class defender when he can be bothered but to often he looses concentration. Never fills me with confidence. When do you ever see carragher making a mistake ?

Cole is turning into an important player for us and i think we have Mr Mourinho to thank for that

My Lineup :

Robinson(GK)

Neville(RB) Campbell(CB) Terry(CB) A.Cole(LB)

King(DM)

Gerrard(RM) Lampard(CM) J.Cole(LM)

Rooney(AM)

Owen(FC)

If campbell is still in the loony bin id replace him with carragher

Sorry pal, i'm not a massive Beckham fan but to be fair to him he's playing well for club and country at the moment. I thought his first half performance was excellent.

I admit he is not doing bad for madrid but come on for england ? Hes done nowt. Alls he did in the whole game was scuff a shot over the bar. I think you will find philips did more in the 20 mins he was on.

Everytime lampard and gerrard play together they seem to get their knickers in a twist about who is staying forward and who is going back. To get the best out of them we need a hoding mildfielder. King is perfect. Yes beckham is a good player and would walk into most international teams but we have a wealth of talent in that department that have outgrown him !

well from tonights game i have learnt...

Sven really needs to choose his team on who the best players are for the positions, and not worry about names on the team sheet...

with this in mind the centre of defence picks itself, John Tery and Jamie Carragher have been the best, most consistent defenders in the country for well over 18months now, so there in

Left back is tricky, ashley cole would be my first choice but since he hasn't been playing then don't think he can be considered, therefore Wayne Bridge would get the nod IF not too seriously injured,if he is then Kieran Richardson or Warnock could be worth a try

Right back..as much as i hate him, gary neville is a good right back and fairly consistent with bags of experience. omissions being Campbell (loony and off form) and Rio ( shocking at the moment, thinks he's Franz Beckenbauer when in truth he is very average at actually defending)

Goalkeeper is obviously Robbo, although needs to stop injuring his own players!!!

Midfield....on tonights display,Carrick has impressed me with his level head,no panic approach.Ledley King can be rash at times and is far too inconsistent, so Carrick gets the holding Role. Stevie G is my choice for Central Midfield ahead of Lumplard, mainly for his work rate, tackling and obvious class, Lampard is good, but just gets edged out.
Left mid is Joe cole, finally showing he can be a show pony and still have a good contribution to a game, i will never thank Maureen for anything, so a big thanks to Steve Clarke for getting the best out of him
right mid is becks to start, he can have average games BUT has the class to deliver telling crosses / set pieces, he is also our captain and the players do follow him well. SWP defo to come on when needed but not to replace Becks, maybe carrick with Stevie holding and becks playing central.

Strikers
Owen if fit, money grabbing little cunt does score important goals so lets hope he can get fully fit!!
Rooney..don't need to give reasons

so my starting eleven reads...

Robinson

Neville Carragher Terry Bridge

Carrick

Beckham Gerrard J.Cole

Rooney
Owen

Rest of Squad:
Crouch
Defoe
Ferdinand
Wright Phillips
Lumplard
King
Green
Brown
Luke Young
James
Campbell

Aye, true I guess... seems a shame though. Liked him tonight. Although I may be influenced because I'm pissed, and he scored.

King as a holding midfielder? As a spurs fan, even I find that sugestion ridiculous!

You simply can't leave out Beckham - forget his scuffed shot. His long ball play to open up the width of the team is superb, and while he may not have the pace, Rooney aside, I don't think there's anyone with a higher workrate.

Got to agree with Flipper on the team selection.

I just hope Eriksson has a plan B and C, so we don't have another Brazil, and we're unable to change things if needed........

Erickson should play his starting 11 v's an england b team at full pelt 100% that would show up a few of the regulars i reckon.

We are still a few world class player short of winning the world cup (semis if were lucky i reckon) but we can still field two cracking teams

England A (Team Sven WILL pick if everyone if fit)

Robisnson (GK)
Neville (RB)
Terry (CB)
Ferdinand (CB)
A.Cole (LB)
Beckham (RM)
Gerrard (CM)
Lampard (CM)
J.Cole (LM)
Rooney (FC)
Owen (ST)

England B

James (GK)
Young (RB)
Campbell (CB)
Carragher (CB)
Bridge (LB)
S.W.Philips (RM)
King (DMC)
Carrick (MC)
Downing (LM)
Crouch (ST)
Defoe (ST)

What a B team !

I see what your saying but thats a bit harsh. When he has played there for england he has been immense.

Mr 'adopted englishman' Gray was saying on sky sports last night that our starting eleven should be fine in the group stages but when it comes to playing world class teams (ie. argentina/brazil) that play someone in 'the hole' behind the stricker/s we will need a holding midfielder. Further adding that it may be required to drop one of the big three (Becks, Gerrard, Lampard) to accomadate a proper holding midfielder (King/Carrick).

..... but in that role for Spurs, he looks out of his depth at times.

Up against the Argentinians for example, I reckon he'd struggle in that role, although I do appreciate the importnace of the position.
