If it's not water cooled, the center housing does not have any connections for water pipes. The turbo you got is not S1 spec. But it doesn't matter, S1 and S2 turbos are the same apart from that.

musn't be explaining meself very well. i connected the water pipes together thereby bypassing the turbo because there is no connections for the water pipes. i thought there was no difference apart from the water cooling but thought id ask cause im getting a lot of wastegate chatter

ahhhhh S1 turbo then

my t3 stage 3 isnt watercooled. and as said above doesnt mater what one ya use. unless your using it on a fiesta as i think if i remember its the S2 t3's aint good cause the water heats up of wear the turbo is seated??? maybe wrong

my MFI S2 chatters its arse off. it can also be a sign that your metering unit is fucked from what ive been told if its mfi....and mine was.

but if ya search chatter on here peeps explain it very well what it means/does. think it was in general discussion not so long ago

PMSL @ metering unit being shafted

it's the air rushing back through the turbine blades, thats all the noise is

called it fluttering, cos thats what it's doing (same as a bird, the noise is the air being moved arround)

you can self control the flutter too, dont take foot harshly off accelerator pedal, practise and do it softly or just in the right place and it lasts a little longer

i totally agree with what ya saying there. just thats what i got told in GD and 3 weeks later my metering head was fooked.

but i do prefer the sound of that to a chud valve

I also remember someone a long time back explaining that if the metering head was fooked then that would also contribute to the effect of chatter.

Obviously it's the air stalling back through the turbo making the noise, but perhaps if the air-flap remains open (due to being fooked), that creates low pressure air that side of the turbo, then the higher pressure air from the other side wants to get to the low pressure side (due to normal air physics of low pressure/high pressure areas), so moves back through the turbo at a quicker velocity, causing a louder chatter noise than if the metering head was closed fully and the pressure on that side was slightly higher with a lower velocity movement result.

James: what difference does having a 0.48 housing have over standard ?
Previous owner of my car was told by Karl at NMS that the turbo had a 0.48 housing.
