Simple MS-DOS commands! HELP!
Ive not used MS-DOS for like, 8 years at least i reckon, and have totally forgot how to use it
Got a couple of old games i wanna play, and will only work in MS-DOS mode, but im fucked if i can remember the functions to even load the games
How do you search the directorys for a file? I cant remember.
And how do you go into a directory for that matter
Actually, how you do all those simple things, i cant remember shit
There are MS-DOS help sites on the net, but they all complicated, i only need the majorly simple stuff just to search and load a couple of games...

right, i worked out "cd" then a space, then the folder name goes into that folder.
but couldnt remember how to pause the "dir" function to see whats in big folders, but thats that dir/w thing isnt it? it was summat like that.
either way, i got it working enough to play Jet Strike
Good old 1994 games
no sound tho
says cant find a sound card
gotta get ready to go out now anyhow so thats enough for now, cheers

Depends what version of dos and what OS/Hardware you run.
For 8 years i used DOS 5 or 6 along side Windows 3.1 (you could choose to load it in dos, none of this direct loading into XP business) before upgrading to win98 in 1999
I still remember some functions, the main ones you need are the ones above really. For searching directories or whole disks with the contents spread on Dos5/6 the command is: "dir|more". You never mentioned what Dos version your using btw, probz will be why the sound aint working as some of the games were designed to be playe din dos 5/6 and not windows XP version dos so the drivers/setting were different

dir/s - shows directories and all contents
dir/p - shows contents of current directory page-by-page
dir/s/p - shows directories and all contents, page-by-page
cd.. - back one directory
cd [directory name] - opens that directory
doskey - turns on the ability to scroll through previously entered commands
Alternatively type 'help' for a list of commands......
