Default oh poo, cambelt tensioner shattered :(

driving home from Adams earlier, and going down the M62, then a horrible rattle from the engine, and a distinct loss of power

limp into the services and have a look at the engine to diagnose the problem, and the cambelt is slack

took cambelt cover off and the tensioner has dropped in bits, cambelt has skipped a few teeth on the pulleys and thrown the timing out totally

now the question is this............

how do you setup the camtiming on a ford 1.8 Diesel engine ?

more like "dads recovery" - one tow rope later, and one bollocking from a police man

Same thing happened to me years ago on the same engine, nylon tensioner melted, dropped the belt and smashed the engine to bits, was doing 100MPH, was a M Reg mondeo.

Why get a bollocking from the old bill ?? Hardly your fault is it ? You didn't ask the belt to slip !!!!

Got a bollocking from the old bill for free wheeling down the hard shoulder from heartshead moor services to the brighouse junction where my tow vehicle was waiting, altho it wasn't such a bollocking as a "well done, you've obviously got an aire of common sence to get the car off the motorway and safely on your way" - could quite easily have been 3 points that

Sean - the coppers both said that in a breakdown situation on the motorway, you are allowed to tow a vehicle using a rope as far as the next junction, just to remove the vehicle from the motorway

be reight - will get a new tensioner on monday and throw it in and see how we go

Gareth - can you explain the picture please
