you get that stuff in sheets from demon tweeks.

is proper heat sheild for exhaust etc so will do the trick.

ok for my first attempt i thought.

wil make it again out of a more rigid material using that as a template...

FPMSL@dan

he dead right tho, if it works, who gives a fuck what it looks like.

rather have that and some genuine performance than some flashy looking engine and nothing to show for it barring lots of talk.

then again i cant see them heatshields doing much

function over form

it's like the famous broom handle mod for the removing the dump valve - don't look great, but it's cheap and it works. leaves more money for the important things like petrol, tyres, brakes etc

rapidcossie You've got the right idea The material used is superb.

As you may know that material is available in three types:
Single sided
Double sided
Double sided with a ceramic layer sandwiched within = (f**king expensive!).

I was sent some post card sized samples by the manufacturer - one of each type.

Not a scientific test by any means - but a real eye opener:

Got a slice of frozen bread and put in on the grill (gas grill on maximum heat), timed how long it took to go brown (the usual brown colour for toast)........it took 46 seconds.

Then did the same test (again used a slice of frozen bread) with the single sided material directly on top of the frozen slice of bread:
It took 5 minutes to go brown......

And again with the double sided material: 8 minutes to go brown.

Then the ceramic stuff: The bread would NOT go brown in fact is stayed frozen for about 1 minute - I gave up after 12 mins........carefully lifted off the material (use tongs), the bread was still white, and was only slightly warm to the touch!

fanks it kinda looks like exhaust heat shield that goes on the underneath of a car wonder if it could be used to keep the heat contained when using a tubular manifold (instead of tape or ceramic coating)

Measure ambient temps outside the car and measure the temp in the air filter. If it works I personally dont care what it looks like.

" looks " and function usually cost too much. So it depends on your budget.

I like Dougs test, thats the sorta test I would have done

back in the day I had a problem with my starter getting killed by my exhaust. We got hold of a pipe wrap that is used when welding. It was about 1 inch thick and SERIOUS stuff. You could put the wrap on your hand and put a piece of glowing red hot metal on your hand and have no idea.

Overkill but it worked

You could prob get a company to make up the box section fairly easily to work with your air filter
