Hi all

I'd like some advise off all you cosworth owners out there. I'm seriously considering buying a 2wd sapphire cos at the moment as a change from old escorts.
My problem is I'm used to mk1 and mk2 rs escorts which as you all know are very easy to work on and relatively cheap to repair.
My problem is everyone keeps telling me cosworth ownership = an endless money pit!

are they as bad as people make out?

If I spend circa £4000 on a straight 2wd (stage 1 tune at the most) with a recent motor rebuild / history am I asking for trouble?

how reliable are they with a normal stage one tune?

stage 1 shouldnt present any probs really. i have a stage 1 saph and the only problems ive ever enountered were purely down to driver error

once you go stage 3 or over, you have to start considering uprating the rest of the car to match the power... ie brakes, suspension, clutch etc.

Try and take somebody with you that knows them inside out not just the engine to look at, there`s body work, Panels, dodgy respray, etc, just make sure you have a look at a few, dont jump in......
