As I'm only 17 I have I have to make do witha 1.3 escort(tell me about it) I'm putting some money into modding it (not to much obv). What I'm looking for info on is can I put a new (obv not new lol) engine in it when I get a bit older and insurance companys like me more . I'm hearin u can transfere a 1.8 into the quite easily etc, but I want someone with more experiane to tell me what i can do to make it faster lol cheers!

 

correct me if i am wrong but u can drop any engine in that is out of the same model car as yours(i.e:u have a Mk4 1.3 u can drop a Mk4 1.8 etc...)

but as i say dont hold me on that

 

What year Escort is it mate? If you got a 1.3 CVH in there your best and easiest upgrade would be to drop a 1.6 CVH in its place, keep it on carbs if its on carbs already
Forget the insurance companies mate, unless your dropping a cossie lump in there, they dont really need to know! Makes me laugh when people worry about telling the insurance companies about swapping parts on their cars- people come over all honest and tell them every nut and bolt that might possibly be non standard like the insurance companies are the goddam police or somethin... i say f**k em! theyre just an insurance company! people scam phone insurance companies to get a new model mobile without theyre concience coming into play, why is it different with car insurance companies?!?
Its highly unlikely they will send anyone out to look at your car if you do crash and claim, and even if they do, theyre mechanical expertise only goes as far as knowing how to operate the button on the top of their biro's, so they wouldnt know a zetec from a CVH anyway!

would be easyer to just buy a xr3i with lots of rust but good runner and do the convirtion not that hard if u got a car there to copy off
just dont tell any one u done the convtion
thats if its a mk4 by the way

If you do the conversion you are better off telling the insurance company because the Police inspect the cars now if there has been a fatality and they know what they're on about so they would know it has been converted.

cheers all I have a mark 5 L reg. So am thinkin of gettin the 1.8 zetec and wappin it in, but that in the futrure because first i need the cash lol . Its unbeliveable how shite the 1.3 HCS or overhead valve is, I ahd to change the Cylider head wen I bought it, its is either leakin oil or burning it but there no sne of leakage or blue smoke and it sounds like a tractor wen teh tappets go out which I never let ahppen obv lol nah dnt have ne pics yet but i will wen I get the mods done, I've bought some Rs Turbo alloys for Ł30 pretty good cond but am gettin them reprayed neway (silver) I'm gonna de-CAT it soon cheap style thinkin of lowerin it a bit and hgettin a good exhaust or back box at least . cheers neways!!!

 

engine mounts differ from the 1800, im replacing my 1300 cvh with my 1800 zetec. i got the 5 door lx 1800, so i got everything i need.
