Default What size wheels for a mk1?

Hi,
I am looking for a new set of alloys for my mk1 mex. It is standard arched with 2" lowering blocks at the back, standard width axle. Most of the tuning guides I have seen suggest a 6" width wheel as a maximum, yet I see a lot of magazine cars with 13x7's with 175/50x13 tyres??

Is this wheel/tyre combination going to clear the arches, and is the rim width/tyre size safe?, it seems a bit stretched for a 175 tyre on a 7" rim. I am after a set of minilights/compotive ml's/ superlites if anyone has a set stashed away.

Cheers

Wayne.

A lot of people run 7's on Mk1's and 2's and they do fit you just might need to take the arches back a bit or get them rolled upwards!

A mate of mine has them on an anglia and has the back of the wheels machined as they used to hit the arches all the time, now they have been done they are fine!! Not sure where would do it though!

I have a set of 6" ones on my mk2 and soon to go on my mk1 they only just catch on the front arches on full lock when moving (dodgy shocks i think!)
