Right ive come to the conclusion from the siren type whistling sound coming from the engine bay area that my turbo might be fcuked , here are my symptoms.... i took the turbo hoses off and checked the play in the shaft and found no ovious movement in an out but there was some movement up and down id say about 2-3mm ish but there are no signs of it catching on the housing, on boost there is no smoke and apart from this noise the car is perfect, the turbo spoils up at the right time with no noises apart from this fcuking whine.....does it sound like its fcuked?? if so how much roughly would it cost to recondition it, inc removal and refit??? cheers........i believe it to be a cossie 4x4 T3 its got the numbers A/R 42 on the housing???but it could be a standard/hybrid escort T3??, im running 16psi btw

mine was doin exactly the same as yours and im afraid it was fucked

 

ive been told to expect about 1mm of play up and down so basically no movement is this correct??, is it expensive to replace the bearings??

 

Does the noise sound like when you blow into the top of an empty bottle?

If so, one of my turbos died shortly after.

 

BRASSO..difficult to tell sounds vry much like a police siren but in a whistly way mate it does it on part throttle aswell???, starts to make the sound at about 2k but on full throttle at say 4-5k cant really hear it as much??????, any ideas on how much for a replacementset of bearings??
