Default stage 3 saff help please? need a 12 sec pass at pod!

hi all,

basically, i'm in competition with one of my friends who owns an ST205 GT4, we've both run at pod before, i'm the quickest so far, but only by .05 of a second.

now, he's willing to spend whatever it takes just to beat me, but i can't have that! so now i need some professional advice on a)my engine and b)my car/sus setup.

he's now fitted a new exhaust, underdrive pulley set and a new clutch (which was his major let-down last time). he's even talking about gas just to beat me!

from what i can remember from his times, his 60ft were 1.7s and his terminals were all 100mph ish.

now, what can i do to improve on my times??

my car is a 2wd saff with greens, 2wd t3 (standard, apart from 360 thrust), -31, pro-alloy cooler, unknown chip, ramair filter, scorpion exhaust and blitz dual SBC boost controller. it has koni's and currently runs yoko a539's.
i also have the option of a straight through-side exit exhaust.

now some questions for you tuners and strip regulars

tuners:

a)would you use the side exit (it seems to spool really quickly with this on)
b)what is a safe boost level to peak at with greens?
c)what is a safe boost level to hold with greens?
d)worth considering nitrous?
e)any other simple mods going to give me much of a gain?

strip regulars:

a)slicks? good idea to get my 60ft times down? if so, what pressure would you run them at?
b)suspension, wouly you try to set it soft or hard?
c)launch techniques: any good ones? i tend to make the car tug on the handbrake to put it under a bit of load, drop it and go!

any help is appreciated, i can't loose this one!

cheers,
martin.

yeah, i know they don't do shite... but its the fact that he's gonna be launching harder that worries me...

few other things,

my best 60ft was 1.999 on 205 avon's, my car runs 1.7 bar boost at the moment and my terminals are 107mph all the time.

cheers.

Set of drag radials and frame connectors. if he was running 1.7's then he wont improve on that much so it will cost him alot to gain, your 60fts can be improved so thats your starting point. the mods I've mentioned will drop you into the 12's.

Danny has it spot on, its more grip you need more than more power for certain.

HOWEVER if he does a decent nitrous install on his car he will dive straight into the 11s anyway and you can forget it.

Racing a 2wd off nitrous against a 4wd on nitrous, is hardly a fair fight and you would need a truely awesome suspension setup and a massive amount of power to compete.

You dont sound dumb mate, its not a common thing in the cossie world but its a mod that my company offers and the cars with the mod have great improvements, one car being Rod Tarry's MADROD another being my own saph which ran 12.8's with cossie supsension and 280hp before I fitted a live axle and ladder bar set up.

For more info check my site www.adrenaline-race.com you can also link to my forum and the frame connect details are on there and also pics will be added this week.

Also the FWD traction kit will be added this week as we got a kit fitted on a 400hp Focus RS and the results are very impressive

the vibrations break the diffs more than actual grip, juddering wheel spin is the killer.

yeah, but mine went with zero judder, just when it sat down and squatted as saffs tend to do,blew it on the line big time, admittedly more power than stg3 but it might be worth looking into if he doesnt want to end up on an rac truck! gonna be close to the limits of it at stg3 and big grip

these can be done to most rwd cars, some more complexed than others but all with same results, a road car would feel alot more responsive to turning in, more stable in the bends and more stable under breaking.

you can loose judder by gaining grip, but alot of it is down to spring and damper settings, also the clutch is a big player.

thats the details on the frame connectors, they strengthen the floor pan between the front chassis legs and the rear legs and alos offer additional support around the rear beam.
