Currently 72KG's (5 foot 7) tonight did 10 x 80KG 8 x 80KG 5x80KG 5x 70kg inc bar which is a York spin lock with I estimate at 5KG's, unspotted on my own in my home gym and can still run . never done a 1 bench max as A) it's pointless and B) with no spotter I'd be fucked and C)at the moment 80KS's is all the wieght I have untill my mate give me my 2 20KG plates back lol. Personally know a lad who trained on his own at home and dropped 140KG IIRC on his chest and killed himself so know better than that. RIP Stacey.

660 kg leg press 260 kg squats,180 kg shoulder press etc etc

i used to be big and strong, never really got into the gym thing, but delivered 25kg bags of spud to chippys in the midlands, 450 bags in about 6 hours, 3 at a time, 10 on a sack truck, and i weighed in at around 18 stone, lost all the strength now, sitting in a truck turning a power assisted wheel don't do much for muscle building, and i got upto about 26 stone, back down to about 20 now and aiming for about 16-17 stone, 6ft 1, used to have solid 19in arms and a 21in neck, all from just work not working out, and when i did removals the size of the muscle that comes out the side of the neck down to the top of the shoulder use to be massive, but as i say, all gone now, just a fat weaklin now.

When I was fit (about 3 yrs ago) I was 76kg and could bench 100kg for a couple of reps and did manage 110kg for one rep a couple of times. If we are talking sets of 10 reps at a time then I could do 80kg. Be intersting to see how badly I do now, might get the gear out later.... workshop challenge stylee!

My grandad used to lift 18 stone of corn every day all day during the harvest and so did every other farm worker back in their day, i challange any a strong man to do that all day today.
My farther oftern used to tell me about a man on the farm Wally Cuthbert was his name but they called him Custard and they put 3 comb of corn (48 stone) on his back and he held it ok, when they were building a building on the farm he got a pair of bolt cutters to cut some steel rod and bent the handles together, they hang in the workshop today.

Im used the weight stone as i dont understand the kg stuff and to old to learn now.

My granddad is the same. Burley welsh farmer. His party trick was bathroom scale squeezing. He's had everyone from SAS troops to bodybuilders try to beat him but so far is unbeaten. He's from a world where when you were a young buck in the pub you bragged about hoy many bails of hay you stacked, or how many sheep you could sheer in an hour rather than quick your car is, or how many birds you've nailed though

Some studies have shown and proven it's not easier, however in reality it probably is a little. You can concentrate more on getting it up with the smith machine and not concentrate on keeping it stable.

I always find i can lift easier if i'm not concentrating and just doing it. Once i start concentrating i can't do as many reps.

Maybe when you concentrate your form is stricter? Slower negatives and what not.

Was going to say the same thing. When you think about it you'll be keeping better form and performing it correctly. That Dorian Yates vid is good viewing on the subject.

Smith machine is better for isolating the pecs cos you don't use other muscles to stabalise the weight.

I'm with coldo on this one this thread makes for some funny reading are people confusing pounds for kilos
its also confusing how people are writing how much they can lift like when said 100kg is that 2 20 plates a side and the bar or is that 2 20 plates and a 10 plate.also if you are natural or not is a big factor.
and by natural i mean never been on steroids not been on for 6 months and come off for two weeks and all of a sudden your natural
if you have ever been on steroids then you are never natural again in my opinion.
and then comes the best point the actual quality of the rep the amount of people that i see put silly weight on a bench and then go down about a inch and then jump up all proud of them selves is a joke
and lastly there are very few people that will be able naturally lift 3 20 plates a side

Up until a few weeks ago, I could manage 3 and a oh shite 4th one on 3 plates a side (Smith machine though, so I must be a pu++y). I'm natural. I'm a little 5'08 and around 14 stone, fast approaching my 41st birthday, so I should really stop this nonsense.

Odd really, I struggled with 2 plates and 10 last week. Anyway, the past few days I have tried out the Yates videos, just for a change. The weight I can lift has dropped right off. I was managing incline with 45kg bells, but could only get to do the 35 ones yesterday using the video as a guide.

Sitting here aching all at the minute, must get some choccy bics down me neck, make me feel better.

Not as such, I'm not a qualified cutter etc, but I am qualified to measure people for bespoke suits etc. Alot more to the measuring side than people realize, especially when people like Danny walk in.

"about" 160kg? Can you bench 160kg or not??

As for your mate, benching 200kg at 98kg? You should let him know he has beaten a british bench press record in the under 100kg unequipped class!

100kg Bench(All Contest) Chris Edwards 195kg 16/02/2008
