Default fiesta help !!

Hi Guys
The girlfriends son has just bought his first car, a 51 plate fiesta 1.25 vtec.
It seems to run a bit hot on occaisions, then the temp guage goes back to half way. I am thinking its something to do with the thermostat ?
Now today the engine light has come on. The car still drives ok, the temp guage seems to have a mind of its own , but apart from that all seems ok.
Any one got any ideas as the girlfriend is really worried, and i am offshore !!!
Cheers fellas.

My guess would be a sticky thermostat! (and this is a guess with out seeing the car!)

would also probably be worth a flush & coolant change too!

If the thermostat is sticking the car will get rather hot then it will "pop" open and the engine will cool down again as coolant goes through the rad again!

Good luck and keep us updated!

On the bulk head there is a heater control valve and they cause the same problems your having. I have had loads of them fail and once replaced with a genuine ford part it sorts the fault out. Dealers keep them in stock because its such a common problem you wont have any trouble walking in there and picking one up. Last one i bought was £29-95 and a 15 min job to change.
