Default Ride quality

Hi guys

Moving from a 1.4 zetec to the St i've really noticed the harshness of the ride. Is there anything i can do to make it a bit more bearable? I'm looking at getting rid of the completely naff tyres that came on it (they're 'goodride' - yep not heard of them either) and getting some avons or hankooks. Would increasing the profile from 40 to 45 cause any problems apart from maybe putting the speedo out very slightly? (so they'd be 205/45/17)

Anything else anyone can suggest?

Thanks guys

You've bought a hot hatch, what did you expect the ride to be like

But yes, tyre profile will make a difference.

Drive around in an 80's hot hatch for a week, then go back and see how luxurious your st really is??

Ive been a passenger in other sts and other 'hot hatches' (vxr and 197) and I swear the ride in mine is awful in comparison
Can naff tyres make that much of a difference?

Yes.

Changed mine from barely legal P-Zero Nero to a new set of Rainsport 2, and it was much better. Until I got used to it.

You'll always notice the ride more as a driver than as a passenger too.

I had standard (here thats standard) 16" , 195 45 16, and yes ride was better (I have eibachs also). on 17 (205 40) ride is a bit too hard and not nice for everyday. 16" rims will make it a bit better, not much but you will feet it.

on 17 it handles better on good roads and look much better than on 16

and st with standard springs are great to drive over those shitty roads, but looks a bit too high

You can't compare the ST with other hot hatches. The Fiesta has one of the best suspensions but that also means it's not very comfortable to drive around.

Buying good tires will help improve the handling, but you won't feel any great difference in comfort. 5% more profile height also won't make a big difference. Mine don't get more comfortable when I change from summer wheels (standard Pirelli PZero Nero 195/45R16 on 7x16; 17" were optional wheels here) to winter wheels (185/55R15 on 7x15").

Accept it or buy a different car
