Replace Clutch - £500
Hi there,
I have a Ford Fiesta Ghia 03 plate.
I have been quoted £500 (negotiated down from £600) to get a clutch replacement at a local dealer.
Is this a reasonable cost?
Thanks
AMO

Ok, I got this diagnosis from a Ford Dealer:
Costs (inc VAT)
Clutch Replacement £643.06
Gear Box Torque Restricter £51.11 (do with clutch - no added labour charge)
Discs Front Worn change with pads £216.00
Nearside Headlamp motor running all the time head lamps are on
Front indicator bulbs starting to discolour
£45.53 (both)
Total: £955.70
However, I asked for a quote based on the above in red, and I got this from a local:
Labour
Clutch - assy Remove & Refit 199.80
Flywheel/drive plate Remove & Refit 10.80
Parts
*621301133 3 part clutch 1.00 189.99 189.99
*415018210 Single mass flywheel 1.00 319.99 319.99
So one will change the Gear Box Torque Restricter and another will change the Single Mass Flywheel.
I assume they are different components right?
Thanks,
AMO

Yes they are different parts. I'm not sure why anyone would quote for a flywheel (solid) without inspection I.e with the box removed.
And I've never changed a torque restrictor on these and never had problems.

Thanks Matt. I appreciate the response.
Basically, my wife's car judders in 1st gear when you accelerate through it.
The Ford Dealer came to the conclusion that the clutch needed changing and also the torque restricter.
What's your view on that symptom?
The car has done about 35,000 miles since new.
