Hi,
You should use an engine either from a mk1 Mondeo or a MK5/6 Escort because later models of Focus and Mondeo have an electronic fuel pump and will be a nightmare to connect the wiring while with a mechanichal fuel pump you cant go wrong. These engines usually come with an intercooler mounted on top just behind the top cover. If you are keeping it that way then you will have to move the brake servo a few inches to the left and extend the linkage bar if its a rhd.Otherwise i suggest you use a FRST front intercooler and just fit the pipes. It will save you from cutting the bonnet up and fitting an impreza scoop. If you are using the fiesta gearbox it should be a straight swap but the flywheel/clutch and pressure plate won't fit so you'll have to use ones from a Fiesta 1.8d.But watch out!
The standard Fiesta diesel clutch won't take the extra power from the TD so buy an uprated set. I would also suggest a set of Fiesta diesel Front springs/shoks for the heavy load cause the engine weighs a ton. You will also have to fit an air filter cause your old one won't be good. Shouldn't be such a difficult operation though. Good thing about Fords is that everthing matches from one another. Should give you some good cheap trouble free power.Quite quick Andy

I know that the fiesta diesel clutch is the same as an rsturbo so it should bo ok.
i am going to use a front mount intercooler, maybe from a new transit van. What cars will have suitable boost hosing?
thanks

Well i suggested the fiesta RST intercooler because you could use all original mounts and brackets and would look factory made.I think the Transit intercooler is very similar to that of the Mondeo/Escort TD engine that would come with your engine so you might aswell use that.
Regarding the hoses, you have a long way from the front of the car way back to near the firewall. What you best do is get some stainless steel pipes made to fit at a garage which makes exhaust pipes and only use the rubber or silicone pipes to connect the steel pipe to the intercooler and the inlet manifold. Blue samcos would look nice.
If you're not using the intercooler in its original place you would be better off finding an inlet manifold from a Ford P100 pick-up (same 1.8td but without intercooler) and only change the elbow. This will save you moving the brake servo to the left. You'll understand better when you see it.You might be tempted to use the bigger turbo from the P100 hence also changing the exhaust manifold.(More boost lag but bigger kick in the arse and wheel spin )
Leaving the intercooler in its original place could save a lot of trouble.

mackers, i tryed searching for the guide on fiestaturbo but to no avail.... could you post it please? i am doing this conversion to my mk3 fiesta 1.8d,
have a 1995 escort 1.8td engine waiting to go in, i heard the diesel clutch is the same as rst also, due to the torque the diesel has i think....
i will post up a project thread soon as i can find some time....
