Removed scorpion exhaust and back to standard.Car now running like a pig.
Hi all,
Happy New Year,
I recently had a scorpion stainless exhaust system removed from my MK5 XR3i 1.8 ..16 valve..It was a bit too noisy for my liking and had a 4 inch tail pipe. Got my local guy to source a standard exhaust..Took him three weeks on a back order.. But now since I had it fitted my engine doesn't rev out crisply once warmed up.. As the XR3i was also made as a 1.6 CVH 8 valve I'm wondering if its possible my guy put the wrong exhaust on my car. My question is ...If the bore was too narrow on the new exhaust and it does look narrow...Would this cause my engine to not rev out properly.?
Or is it a coincidence..The issue didn't seem to be there with the scorpion..
Thanks all,
Morg.

I imagine it could be causing the issue, I wonder if the car was set up with fueling for the bigger pipe. I would start with emissions etc. Do these have lambda probes and cats as that could be an issue.
My 1.9 pug gti had the wrong pipe on it and was restricting power by 10 bhp

Thanks a mill...
Thanks a mill..
My younger bro has a mint Pug 1.9..
Yes a dreaded cat and oxygen sensor is present..Maybe its just a coincidence..
Its no so much that she is losing bhp..She just wont rev out fully when warm and struggles to accelerate and my plugs are covered in black soot..I thought it was over fueling and already changed the engine temp sensor but problem is still there. Then I asked myself could it be changing down to a standard exhaust has upset the apple tart.
Would it be normal to reset the fueling when installing a bigger pipe.?
It has an ECU..So how would one reset it to normal for the standard exhaust..
Thanks again,
Morg.
