my mk5 escort has been stood unused for a few years today i removed the old fuel.
i removed all the fuel it was urine colour so i gather it was stail fuel. as new fuel is a clear colour.
i removed the fuel by taking the pipe off the fuel regulator and kept turning ignition on and off.
i replaced with new fuel now the car refuses to start? when i first tryed to run car after putting new fuel in it backfired a couple of times after turning over.
the pump seems ok as i can hear it prime and then turn off.
i took out plugs and dryed them cleaned and refitted them, the car tryed to start but just will not fire.
im stumped as it did run eventully on the old fuel. and now wont start at all with new fuel in?

ok thanks i will buy some easy start tommorow.
i pulled the fuel regulator pipe back off and i can see the new fuel is comming through ok. so do you think the filter might still be blocked if theres fuel getting through?

I take it you tried starting first....then took the fuel out? Mine refused to start but it started the day before fine.
Changed the leads and plugs then started tho really rough so cleaned the injectors ect out and she started like a dream.
Im going to say its dirt clogging something.

With the plugs still out turned the engine over for about 10 secs. Tho as pretty as the fountain of redex shooting up I should have put a towel to stop my engine bay getting covered!
Put the plugs and leads back in and the amount of crap that was thrown out was shocking!! Worked a treat as there is no carbon at all in the chambers and my injectors are gleaming!
I did squirt a load of spray injector cleaner into the throttle body and redex in the take to make sure.
Give it a bash, worst that can happen is it wont start!
