Carnuaba wax was the best for me.

But at the moment it will have to wait till i get rid of the larger in the fridge in the garage cause i start with good intentions then end up pissed and dont even finish a full panel

Poorboys is really good, its made in the US.. and you can get it from

the SSR range are really good for removing swirls etc
and the Nattys Carnauba Wax is one of the best I have used

I use Mequiars and some Autoglym stuff. Very happy with it.
On the net I came across a swiss company, believed to be the best in car wax etc. Stuff is called Swissoll and it is mega expensive.

I use this trade stuff that my dad gets. It doesn't last very long, a couple of washes but it's totally silicon free (my painter loves it !!) and mate, nothing else gives a shine and finish like it and I've used every polish you care to name.

The best finish usually is the result of a mix of products from different brands. The colour of the car should be the main factor when deciding what products to use - light coloured cars should be using different products to dark coloured ones for example.

Meg's 3 stage is okay, but the final stage is poor compared to other finishing waxes available. Also, none of the stages have any cut, so it's still advisable to use a proper polish on your car throughout the course of a year.

What colour is your car?

A few times a year you should use an actual polish, rather than stage 1. Stage 2 is a 'pure polish' with no cutting ability so this won't do.

You should replace your stage 3 with a better quality finishing wax - which one will depend on your car colour.

So a few times a year, instead of the 3 stage system you should consider:

Clay/polish/seal/wax. You can glaze before sealing if you want, to get a wetter shine.

Meg's 3 stage is okay for general cleaning throughout the year, and as a decent 3 step for beginners, but you'll get much better results out of what i said. You don't need to polish everytime though, in between polishes a paint cleanser will do just fine - which is what the stage 1 is.

This finish is what myself + detailing partner achieved yesterday on a black/blue scooby. These photo's aren't great but you get the idea. They were taken before the final waxing stage, so the car became a lot shinier and more wet looking after this stage. Unfortunately i don't have photo's of that as it was getting dark.

Also, we didn't have time to position the car for photos (as at this stage we weren't finished) so the best reflection shot is of a 'really nice' Ł80 Fiesta...

I own a State blue focus 5 dr, but not for long anymore as I just orderded a 2.2 ST TDCi Mondeo Break? but I wanted the old lass to shine and bling so potential buyers would be more atracted!! She does have quite a few scratches(i.e. door handes)?
So what brands are you using then?

Okay, state blue is a dark colour, with a fair amount of flake in the sun. If you're working by hand (i assume you are?) this is what i think you should use for good results:

Wash with a lambwool washmitt, dry with a waffle weave towel. Clay the whole car to remove surface contaminants. Then polish with either Clearkote Vanilla Moose Glaze (not a glaze it's a polish!) if you want some cut, or Autoglym Supreme or Ultra Deep Shine, as these are suited to dark colours, and will help to mask swirls and scratches.

If you want to richen the shine, you should now apply a glaze - Clearkote red moose machine glaze is best.

Now seal the finish; Autoglym Extra Gloss Protection for a nice, durable finish, or Poorboy's EX-P to really make the flake pop in the sun.

Finish off with a good quality finishing wax. For your colour car, i'd use Poorboy's Natty's Blue.

Then stand back and admire the shine!

I'd be happy to give you a demo but Belgium is a little far

You don't need to bin the Meg's stuff; stages 1 and 2 are okay for in between polishes. Actually, the products i recommended aren't mega expensive - perhaps a little more than usual stuff but not too much. I'm a firm believer that they give at least as good, and often better results than the really expensive zymol/swissol stuff, which is expensive by reputation, rather than quality. Not to say that these products are poor (they are not) but you can easily get the same results from much cheaper items. To prove my point, i buy and try as much stuff as i can as well - and i wasted a lot of money on an expensive zymol wax that i used once, as it didn't give as good a finish as what i usually use.

I'm not sure where you can get them in Europe, but there are plenty of UK online sellers, and i may be able to supply them in the near future.

Radiant red?

If so, i'd clay, polish with Clearkote Vanilla Moose or AG Super Resin (the VM has slightly more cut, so just pick which one you need). Then i'd definately glaze, as it richens the shine nicely on red cars (Clearkote Red Moose) and seal with AG EGP.

I'd then finish off with a good quality finishing wax - either Clearkote Carnuba Moose Wax or P21s Concours Look Carnuba Wax. These products can also be layered if you wish.

I to like to try out differant products, one that has stunned me the most at the mo is the p21s wax, awsome stuff.
I know someone who applied it by machine and said the results were much better so gonna give that a try next.

Havent tried any of the clearkote or poorboys stuff yet but will get some soon.

The products i mentioned will be fine for Venetian Red, so give them a go They're easy to purchase off the net, you won't find them in shops in the UK though unfortunately.

Agreed - the P21s Concours wax is an excellent product, and performs well on all paint finishes. Try Poorboy's Natty's blue on your dark coloured car though; it'll give an excellent finish

The Clearkote and Poorboy's stuff is highly recommended; i've tried as many different things as i can, and this stuff is excellent.
