My Escos has already had the underside detailed with all parts either painted, powder coated or polished. The whole floor area has been sealed and painted light grey.

As soon as we get to the end of the summer, i want to re-paint the whole underside in Auralis blue to match.

My question is, how would I go about this? I have a good, clean, heated garage to do the work in but could I just brush it on without leaving brush marks, or would it really have to be sprayed on? Im thinking if i put enough on, the finish should be smooth as its in a heated garage? Also, what sort of paint would I need to do the job?

Any thoughts or opinions on this guys?

Hi mate, my underside is all painted and polished like you want and i'm sure mine was originally brush painted.

I've just re-done what the previous owner did as he had missed bits and I used a brush and normal 2k paint.

The finish is obviously nowhere near of that on the main bodywork but is a nice smooth paint finish and nice and bright white again, but without grinding off all the marks in the floorpan and filling them you never will get a finish like that.

If you've got a nice clean garage with a heater then that sounds ideal mate, get to it and get some pics up in the resto section!

dan mate where did you buy your 2k paint from as this is what i would like to do with mine, also how much did you need? have you got any pics ? many thanx in advance

Thats just what I want mate. It already been done with a light grey, slightly rubbery (?) type paint. Not sure if this is a sort of base coat or something? All I want to do is re-paint over the top with a brush like you say, so should be pretty easy. Im not after a bodywork-like finish either so not a problem.

Moondust_crust Hi mate, I got the paint via my Dad as he runs his own garage that literally does everything so he ordered some Ford Diamond White in no probs

S1rst The paint already used on your car might be some sort of chassis paint mate, it usually tends to be alot thicker for obvious reasons, should be ok to paint over, just make sure you clean it thoroughly before applying any fresh paint, I might even be tempted to rub it down first if you've got time too, that will enhance the underside finish no end...

wicked photos! the underside of mine has been wiped clean with petrol and rubbed down , ive just finished primering it, do you know roughly how much paint you used matey?

Don't know how much I used to be honest mate, i'd say buy a litre to begin with (which in all honesty should be plenty) then if you don't use it all you can top it up in the future

thats factory rubberised underseal mate, looks like it has been painted in a grey primer, thats what my cabby has got all over the floor pans. would look nice all gloss and shiny

 

Think ill just give it a good clean and paint straight over the top with Auralis.

Think the underseal on mine was taken off then the car turned over and sprayed with primer and a top coat.

Not sure how thinners will work on it mate, should think they might start to take the underseal off

 

use panel wipe to get it totally spotlessly clean before paint

I done mine with 2 pac and sprayed it, I put 2 coats of stoneguard, 2 coats of etch primer, 2 coats of mallard green on then cant remember how much clear coat but it was a lot, lol, that was 2003/ 2004 and it still looks mint now

 

Scott, I assume yours has had the underseal removed too? I didnt really want to get into taking it back to bare metal to be honest. Im not after a bodywork fininsh, just a nice clean and look to match the body.

Any pics of yours mate?

 

Oh and does anyone know what all the yellow marks are on mine. They were already on there when I got the car. Are they some sort of factory markings or something?

no mate, left the factory underseal on the car for protection and painted over it

Yes mate the finish on yours looks the same as mine. My rear arches are black now but was wondering whether to do them Auralis. Either way though Auralis will be going on the floor over the top then.

By the way, your car looks amazing mate.

 

Anyone know how much paint ill need to do the whole floor?

 

my rs turbo was reundersealed wen it was resprayed but i want it radiant red like the bodywork but i was never sure how people did it. if i brushed on the radiant red, would it be a very strong bond to hte underseal or would it just flake off over time??

 

You still haven't changed that tyre mate .........

 

They could be colour swatches from the factory, if you look at some of the top standard class concours cars you'll see they've all got coloured marks/stamps on certain parts.

yeh factories and garages use the yellow paint marks to show that that nut/bolt is tight and has been checked.

 

rst_cabby That tyre was changed MONTHS ago! I just havn't got any new pics of it the right way round!
