Default Microsoft Windows 2000 Pro - questions...

After not bieng able ot figure out why the HDD in my new machine won't work properly, I decided to test the MOBO is working okay by using the 10gb Seagate drive out my normal machine, which is fully loaded with Win98SE.

Suffice to say tho, that the drive did not like that very much, and upon being re-inserted into it's usual home, it decided to play silly fuckers and corrupt itself

So after many a phone call to Jim (cheers dude!) we decided to just wipe it and start again - AGAIN

Anyway, I ended up just overwriting it with an upgrade copy of Win 2k Pro...

Question is, whislt it seems to have installed properly and everything works, I seem to have two sets of files

Basically, all my personal files, programme files and shortcuts etc from the previous Win98SE install are still here, but you can't find em. You can only find em if you use the "SEARCH" function. Very strange. All my pics, vids and tunes etc are still in MY DOCUMENTS. But if you click the MY DOCUMENTS folder on the desktop, thats a different, empty folder.

Also if I use Windows Explorer and open FAVOURITES, all my faves are there, but if I open an IE window and click FAVOURITES, they ain't????

WTF, why is everything dubled up?

Also, why has it set me as a USER, when I wanted it "non-user-defined" ??? Can I change this?

It will have 2 set's of files because you upgraded Win98 SE to Win2k, it keep's the opriginal stuff so that when you decide to bin 2k and return back to 98, it's still there

Thought so. Jim said something about looking in a file called "boot.ini" and there will be lines of code relating to the two OS in there, and just earse the line that relates to the previous install.

I know when it would boot up after installing 2k, it would ask me what I wanted to boot into - 1: Micorsoft Windows 2000 Pro, or 2: Micorsoft Windows and give me 30 secs before it automatically went into 2k....
