Default Windows 8 Problem

I have the lastest windows on my laptop and it updated yesterday automatically, but for some reason I go to my account on the start up screen enter my password and then the screen goes blank

But if I sign into my wifes account it logs in and works

Anyone got any ideas as too why it will work with one account but not the other?

It sounds like your profile is corrupt, your question implies you have Windows 8.

Unfortunately with the new OS's, it is not straightforward to create another profile, as you need to modify a registry key as well, which unless you are comfortable doing, has potential for serious damage.

I can tell you how to rename your profile and make the change to the registry if you are comfortable doing this?

Alternatively you could create a new account, but then you obviously this will not have your data, both achieve the same end result, but the latter is easier and your data can then be transferred...

Can't you just copy the files across from the 'User' directory? Not played much with Win 8 yet.

I've read about this problem elsewhere, some sort of bug when updating W8;
assuming you have Administrator access doing this is the easiest solution.

Go into 'Settings' as it's known in W8.

Look for 'User accounts' or a name along those lines, haven't looked at W8 much.

Then in here select the create a new account option, fill in the required details and you are done.

As said though, this is assuming your working account is an Administrator.

Yes, he could do that into the new profile once it's created, that is what I said by transferring the data across.
