PSML @ Apple
Acer are fantastic, not a fan of their customer support though.
Asus aren't bad.

By the way bud, what are you wanting it for? Will make a difference on what spec you need to how much you'll be paying.

Needs to run my accounts software and office etc.
I know its well over spec for that, but she's just got a quad core desktop and its just so nice to use. Quick to load things, switch from one to the other etc.

The macbook pro retina 15" vs the novatech elite, very similar specs.
The novatech has 1gig more gpu memory and 200gig larger ssd, and .4" larger screen.
The macbook has 1600mhz ram over the novatech's 1333mhz.
Yet for some reason the mac is Ł1,600 more?!? so you're paying more than double, for lower spec hardware.

Get an Ivy Bridge I7 quad core laptop. It should be more than fast enough for anything you want. Add in a decent graphics card if you're into that side of things.

No, because the OS loads from cold in under 60 seconds (less than half that if you use an SSD), can be left on for months on end without needing to reboot, apps load up almost instantly, and it runs Windows better than a Windows machine ![Surprised](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/bigcry.gif)
You're paying for hardware yes, but you're paying for hardware matched perfectly to an Operating System; hardware that's built FOR OS, instead of generic hardware built up to (hopefully) work with a generic OS. You're also paying for ease of use, and complete integration.
I won't deny you are also paying for a name, but you pay for a name when you buy jeans, such as Levi - Levi jeans that do exactly the same thing as supermarket branded jeans that cost a 5th of the price.
Me personally, I use a MacBook Pro because 1) it's easy to use (and so much nice to use than a HP, Dell, Compaq, etc) 2) because OSX is so much nicer to use than Windows, 3) because it "just works", and 4) should I find I need to use Windows for anything (and I have a very expensive piece of audio software that runs on Windows, and don't fancy shelling out Ł600 again to use it on a Mac) I just simply boot up Windows, inside OSX, and run both OS' at the same time, faster, slicker, and more stable than a PC laptop, or desktop, runs Windows on it's own
That's what I paid for - dunno bout anyone else. And I didn't pay anywhere near Ł1600 either - bought a 10 month old one (at the time) for Ł750. Was still cheaper than buying Dell or HP tat....

Can't beat Apple customer service. My charger burned out, and it was well outside it's warranty. Took it into the Apple store, showed the guy, asked how old it was, to which I replied honestly, and he disappeared out the back, and came back with a brand new one - and didnt charge me a penny. What's not to like about that?

The SSD is that in addition to a standard hd or instead of? Just curious due to the apparent capacity difference.

You think an OS loading in under 60seconds makes it good? My Window's based PC loads it in way under that, yet is 6 years out of date.
I'm not going to bother with you Apple sheep/fanboy's, you're too busy reading and believing every little thing Apple spoon feeds you, have fun being ripped off.

And yes, I do think that's good. About 35 seconds to boot into a useable desktop, or 12 seconds if you use an SSD
Please post a video of you cold booting your Windows machine, without SSD, to a useable desktop (ie, where you are able to open a program), as I've never seen a Windows PC boot in under 60 seconds, despite playing around with them for 10 or 12 years.
I mean, this one, overclocked to 4Ghz, 6GB of ram, and with an SSD takes longer to boot than a standard macbook with regualr clockwork hard drive
I very rarely actually base my opinions on what manufacturers say about their product - I prefer to actually try them, and use them where I can, and also use widespread reviews/contributions to determine whether I think it's for me or not. For example, Apple state the Lightning adapter does NOT support the iPod out (or Video) function, but only digital audio line out. However, reports are beginning to emerge it does (at least in some cases) support iPod control and audio out.
I used PC's and Windoze for many many years before buying a Mac. I first began to toy with them about 5 years before buying one, and used one every opportunity I could to learn how they worked and see if I liked them. It was pretty apparent early on the OS was just a joy to use in comparison to Windoze, and after testing further, it was a no brainer. Haven't looked back, and wouldn't even entertain the idea of switching back

Just timed my laptop - 33secs to desktop. My 2001 desktop could do it in 60secs. (No SSDs in sight)
As for virus's --http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/apple/9355995/Apple-drops-virus-immunity-claim-for-Macs.html
Thrush - will superpi run on your mac? If so what's the result.
PS That video you posted shows 17s to boot not 12s with SSD and 39s without.
