Default PC CPU @ 100% ??? help please

switched it on this morning? And its running proper slow, due to something using my cpu to the max?

In the last 3 hours or so, have run a full virus check, anti spy ware, and mal ware scan, and restated a few times, but still @ 100%

any ideas?

download process explorer by sysinternals - it'll give you a better breakdown of what's going on.

The Svchost problem you mention in XP was down to Windows Updates and only affected lower end spec PC'S particularly those with lower memory, this problem was resolved though.

You need to click the "Show Process from all users" at the bottom, it's not a process running under the user account else I would be able to see it in your screen dump, so it's going to be something running under "System" account which could be A/V etc I work on plenty of Windows 7 machines and can confirm the update problem has not reborn in 7.

Use crap cleaner first. You have fuckloads of stuff that shouldn't be on that list and loads of it is running in the background.

Crap Clean it and then check the CPU Usage.

CCleaner won't do anything to process or remove applications at all, rather all it does is what the name suggests (Removes temporary files, MRU's etc) be very careful if you do as a default setting empty's the recycle bin as well which is a good thing, but some user's use the recycle bin and then want to restore data from it.

There are no nasty's on that list.

Ok but mine did that and after a while it started again, its something to do with the adverts they show on there. keep an eye on it. Im using pigen messanger now which lets you use the signin from almost all messanger programs so you can keep your buddie list. It uses 1% of my cpu.

I dont use messengers much nowadays but i remember trying pidgen thingy, its good but you cant use webcam on it, so for me it was useless. Yahoo messenger was always the best, never had a problem with that and you can do video call/voice for free

It could be an AV issue like I stated originally, either it had a big update or as said was doing a scan but this shouldn't affect it anything like what you had.

Just like to point out it has NOTHING to do with windows 7, as 7 is bloody brilliant! (and this is from a microsoft hater!)

Windows 7 is nothing special again most probably believe the hyped adverts which show off the features in the OS, things that are nothing special and can be accomplished in older OS, 7 is still buggy as well, sure it's far better than Vista which is why it was introduced but it's not the best Microsoft OS yet.
