Default Outlook Express (email)

K so my old dear uses outlook express as her email client, using the freeserve email address that came with the broadband package.... When we got the new PC I managed to work out how to set it up so she could send and recive mail using the new PC using outlook express with her email address.

Now what I want to know is - is there an easy way to copy and transfer the address book from this PC to the new one without having to do it the long way and write em all down and add them all again on the new PC?

Easy.

Do a search for all files on the PC with the extension .wab
Copy the files somewhere convenient, open Outlook Express and go to "File", "Import", "Address Book". Browse to where you saved the .wab files

Done.

You can also import old email messages in a similar way

Okay I wnet into outlook last night and opened the address book and pressed the EXPORT TO button and saved it to my flash disk, then plugged that in downstairs, opened outlook and pressed the IMPORT FROM and it seems to have done the trick!

Nice on chap I have no idea about Outlook as I don't use it, my old dear does tho....

How do I change the email address in this outlook so it works with my hotmail account tho? As she don't use the outlook on this machine no more, and it would be usefull to click hte button in the IE browser to read and write new mail rather than open another browser and open hotmial up Was told you can do that, but don't know how

Tools > Accounts > Add > Mail

Fill in the details .... for name > email address (her hotmail)

Outgoing Server = a http server with setting as
Code:
http://services.msn.com/svcs/hotmail/httpmail.asp
Log in name and password..

Tick remember password

Try it my outlook express checks my hotmail account that way. I receive emails through it but can't remember the last time I actually logged on to the hotmail server itself.

You must have done it before it needed to be upgraded so your probably fine, but I take it then I can't use Outlook for my hotmail unless I upgrade my account (which there's no point doing cos as far as extra space etc I have that with G-Mail)

If you change it to Hotmail, when you check Mail from IE it will auto open your hotmail page and if settings are set and stored will auto check them for you.

Not what you wanted I suppose but thats the 2nd best option as far as I can see

Oh cool, I didn't know you could do that. I added a G-Mail button to the IE browser so this does basically the same thing, but with hotmail I had hotmial as my homepage so I used to just click HOME, but then I lose the page I was on so really had to open a new window.. so basically the same really, just a different button

But it's good cos thatsthe button I wanted to use cos I have the choices it gives you: Read Mail, New Message, send link, send page etc... so still kinda an improvement

Arrrrrrggggghhhhh, now it's stopped working!!!! When I pressed the MAIL button before in IE it gave me options to read mail, creat new message etc. If I press it now I still get options buit only some work. I can read mail and it brings up my hotmail in box, but press the new message one and it comes up with 404 error page
