your router dropping connection?

Are you 100% sure that the thing that cures it is a restart?

It doesnt matter that its wireless or not, the router can still drop its connection which will mean no internet until its reconnected, mine does this but luckily only once or twice a week, still annoying though and never worked out why.

Im not saying this is the case with yours but it just sounds like your router dropping connection.

You could try resetting it by turning it off at the wall for 20seconds then back on, might have to wait 5mins for it to reconnect though.

fcking routers

Have you got any other way of connecting to the net like a broadband modem(not the old slow things) or something other than that router, then you can see whether or not its actually the router thats your problem.

It won't be the router. If the problem rights itself after rebooting the COMPUTER, then the problem can't be with the router (as a hardware problem)

For the problem to be the router, rebooting the computer wouldn't make fuck all difference. You'd need to reboot the router or swap out the LAN cable to a different port. I had a router randomly drop ports - ie my machine would be plugged into LAN 1 and work fine, then one day not work at all. Swapping to LAN 2 would solve the issue.

So it's either a software issue on the PC (problem with the network card or IP assigning) or an ISP problem as t31ryt says.....

EDIT - have you done anything with phone line recently? Have you a microfilter in each socket?

sounds like the desktop then as abouve if it was the router then bootin the pc wouldnt sort the router.....another thing to try is logon to the router and assighn a stattic IP as instead of relying on DHCP....is the desktop cat 5'd to the router? have u got wirless phones in the house as sometimes they both use channel 11 and that can drop some wireless cards

hard wired then it MUST be the hardware.....he says the wirless doesnt drop from his laptops SO that only leaves the nic.....if the nic drops its cos its either losing its DHCP address or its just duff...try setting it stattic tiff...u got nowt to lose.

have u looked in device manager TIFF u may have a conflicting IRQ as u said u have only fitted a new g/card they could possibly be sharing the same IRQ???

and beemer boy im only tryin to help if u got nowt constructive to type then dont friggin type!!!!
