Default External Hard Drive - Knackered! help!

I have a external usb hard drive that doesnt turn on any more. It has its own mains power supply which is working and when i flick the on off switch on the hard drive, the "on" LED lights up on the front of the hard drive but the disc will no longer spin up.
What are my options for getting the data of the hard drive? and how much am i expected to pay?

Im a complete novice when it comes to computers etc.

Cheers!

I dont know the current going rate but just about every hard drive situation the data can be recovered.

Its not very often that the disk completely stops spinning though. Are you sure its not a power inside the box issue...

I would crack the box open and plug it in directly. Then atleast you would know its deffo the HD

ive taken the case off, and its a hitachi hard drive. Visually nothing looks wrong, everything is plugged securely etc, Im going to borrow a multi meter and check that the hard drive is getting power to it.

I got hold of a multi meter and i have power going to the board but nothing coming out to the motor on the hard drive itself. Just as it happens someone at work has the same external hard drive, and i measured the voltage on his, and his has 6v where mine has none. Im putting it down to a component failure on the PCB so im going to try and find a replacement board and try that.
