I've got a netgear DG834G (v3 I think) wireless router, with my pc hooked up direct and my laptop wirelessly accessing - brought work laptop home and want to connect that too, but for the life of me I can't remember how I set access for the laptop, I've gone into the router setup at http://192.168.0.1 I know you have to enter a key, so how the hell do I give the new laptop access to the router too?! Thanks!

you just need to find the network and then enter any security details that you have set. have you got WEP or WPA encryptiona enabled (hope so, or anybody can easily use your unsecured network)? if so, as you say you will need the key code (or codeword used to generate the code. you should have these written down somewhere safe

This is all a different language to me, but yes have WEP, I don't remember passphrase
I just bumbled through somehow when initially bought it and plugged it in and hey presto the original laptop connected (it lists 4 keys) I thought I'd just enter the key that was bullet point selected into the new laptop somewhere
Clicked add new station (if thats correct) what the hells a MAC address?!
Actually I don't think I did create a passphrase, I would've remembered, I just dunno how I got the laptop online!
I can't find anywhere on the new one to add the keys/security details to

i'm no expert zoe, but i've managed to set up my home network. but then i wrote down my WEP key
if you put the address of the router into your first laptop, you may be able to change the WEP key. the address id probably 192.168.0.1 - save that as a favourite as well
write down the new pass phrase and WEP key. i keep them in the box up the loft, and also elsewhere. i also saved them in a text file on each computer (maybe not the most secure thing) so that i always have them to copy and paste.
a MAC address is just a way of identifiying each bit of equipment connected to the router.
what software are yu using to try and connect the new laptop? just the windows software?

Mine was very simple to set up. As Nick said, you have to go into the router settings, but should only need this once. And most changes need to be done on a wired computer as opposed to a wireless one....
I just went into it, turned the WLAN on, then put in a password for it.
Then turned laptop on, told it to search for WLAN networks, it found mine and next doors, I told it to connect to mine, it asked for the password, I put it in, and then it connected. With that password saved in the laptop (don't ask me how, it automatically did it
) it just connects everytime I turn it on/wake it up....

It sounds like you are trying to tell the router that there is a new laptop - you don't need to.
You need to make sure wireless is turned on on the new laptop, then put in the key when asked.
If you don't know the key, use a different comp that is connected to go into the router admin page mentioned above to find it.
