Default Sound Problems

Had this before and never really bothered but its starting to get annoying now.

My pc has a built in sound card, which is fine. I very rarely need any sound on it so I dont need anything crazy.

This has a green plug (line out), blue plug (god knows) and pink plug (mic in)

NOw the speaker should be in the green plug and all should be ok. I just use the built in speakers in my monitor. But if i do this, nothing happens. I have re installed the drivers and still get nothing. I also have audio out on the front of the pc, which doesnt work.

So to get sound, I need to change the configuration to 5.1 speakers and plug the monitor into the blue plug, which i have to set as rear speakers. This is fine for music etc, but if i try and play a video, I lose the voices. I have a set of seperate speakers and its no better with them

Anyone got any ideas?
