Computer types - best anti-virus setup...
Right. This is for my mum's computer.
She bought a new one recently, and it came pre-installed with a 3 month version of Norton.
Now that free period is up and it wants her to pay a yearly subscription, which she is fine with.... but from what little I know about computers, I gather Norton isn't well liked.
One person has suggested NOD32 or something as a download. I just want something nice and easy that does a job. The computer is on Vista if that helps......

If you want to pay for a decent one, then F-Secure Internet security - AV, firewall, spyware, email protection all in one. Kaspersky also gets good recommendations.
Just make sure you uninstall ALL of the Norton crap before putting something else on, whatever you choose.

Don't bother with anything else.. although I'd pay for it and get it all legit.
It's kept my PC running perfectly. The others seem to slow PC's up over time.
I have used all of the above over the last few years and are now using Bitdefender internet security...I rate this the best i have ever used and in recent back to back tests i carried out with this and Avg and kaspersky,it found virus's that the others did not find
About £15 on Ebay and with you and working in half a hour through a download link and serial key

So many replys to think about already so my 2 pence probably wont be worth jack
but you DO NOT need to pay for anti virus, ive used AVG which is free for about 2 years and ive not had a virus.
People say spybot etc, they are not anti virus's they are for removing spyware

AVG is so much easier
I have AVG on my laptop, and whilst it's simple, it's a royal pain!
When it runs a system check, which it does everyday, it slows down the computer something shocking!
Windows Defender is running on Vista.

NOD is great without a doubt as is Bitdefender, which I would personally choose for a parent
Avast is ok if you want to go free.
The following Link downloads the software required to uninstall Norton correctly

If your mother is careful in what she open Rich then a daily scan wont be required.
if you want to pay i would go for Kaspersky. best there is, combined with spyware nuker.
If you dont want to pay i would use Avast and ad-aware. as a AV and as a anti spyware.
they both work great
for a firewall i would recomend kaspersky again.
but if you have a spare computer i would recommend smoothwall or IPcop firewall, nothing comes true it. but as said, you need a computer for it + 2x network cards (as it runs it own firewall OS as you could config true a web interface)
