How stupid is this................
not long had my new pc and installed everything, one of the things i had to install was my bluetooth software for my dongle(transfering stuff to pc from mobile and vice versa), anyway installed it all and it was working fine, now a few days later i plug the dongle into a usb port and the system knows its there but it wouldnt let me send or recieve files etc so i thought sod this ill uninstall all the bluetooth software and try agian, so i uninstalled it and then i just plugged in the dongle just to see if anything would happen without the software installed and it did, it said donlge found, installing drivers, hardware is ready to use, and it worked perfectly!? i didnt do anything, all i did was plug it in and that was it? so i didnt need to install the software in the first place

It depends what "stack" you want to use.
Microsoft included a built in stack in the SP2 release of XP - which recognises most BT devices - some ar ethe exception of course. And it will auto install when a recognised device is plugged in.
If tho, you want to use a different programme or "stack", such as a Widcomm stack, then yes you need to install the software, and instead of an auto install, you need to point it at the files you want to draw the drivers and information from.
For example with mine, I much prefer the ease of use of the Widcomm stack comparred to the MS stack, so I installed the Widcomm software, plugged the BT device in and pointed it at the folder created for Widcomm instead of letting it use the standard MS settings.

My dongle is made by sitecom, thats all i can tell you, and as i said, it came with software on a cd, but it installed it self within 10 seconds of pushing into a usb slot.
Im not complaining, just trying to understand it
